I've been very interested in the latest developments in science recently so thought I'd mention a few:

Woke up this morning to the most amazing news that the state of California is suing six carmakers for costs associated with their cars' greenhouse gas emissions. story here Most unlikely that they'll win but boy General Motors, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Chrysler and Nissan are sure likely to think of alternative forms of fuel now.

Yesterday I had my first alcoholic drink in over eight months and it felt great. I'd recently become bored with my sobriety and there was no way I was going to stick it. I had become resentful towards it, so it seemed fitting that on the way to Peterborough for my first away of the season, I should have my rebirth. I know I'll have to stop drinking again if I lose control (again), but we'll just take it one session at a time.

Yes we have a new member of the spud family yesterday evening- Trudis pet so Trudi named - its Sasha I say it as the fellow we got it from said he was 90 percent sure it was girl - which is what we wanted. so will get it checked by a vet this week - shes bonded with us all already - i think she was one of the runts as she is tiny for her age (9 weeks) but we will soon feed her up. Why does anyone buy Windows? Having just downloaded and installed Fedora, it's bloody brilliant! It's got everything a 'normal' computer user might need included - including an excellent fully featured 'office' suite (word processor, spreadsheet, etc) - and it's dead easy to install!

well, i think most of you have heard my news that last week i found out i was pregnant. Me and blue_mondays are really happy about it, altho a complete shock.
I think im now as 'used' to the idea as i can be. lol.
Blue_mondays has ben brilliant ive been up and down like a rollercoaster this week. From complete excitment and loved-upness to tearfull-panic-ridden-mess.
Went to the docs this week too, im 7 weeks pregnant. I havent had any morning sickness yet - but im overly tired ALL THE BLO
Stitched up like a right kipper I've been and here's for why. Babysitting for my sister tomorrow - looking after my neice while her parents take their yacht out for a race. Fine. she phones me yesterday saying as I can cook (trained chef doncha know) how about I make them a meal for when they get back. Okay I say, conversation meanders on a while, then I say how many am I cooking for? she says 9 to 11 including kids and crew! Nine! Terrific!

It's always a real pain when a computer dies, but thankfully my most recent computer deaths have been about as kind as they could possibly be.
Prior to this one today, I last had a computer die on boxing day last year. That was my own 'work' computer - the one I run eFestivals from - so it really couldn't have died at a better time. So on saturday Deutsche Harru moved into my house, I went to a wedding do on saturday evening, then had a meal in York on sunday, and a meal in Sheffield on monday before going out drinking with Sophie, harru and some work mates. Today is mine and Sophies one year together so its all good.
Arghhhh the fish are getting sick - i think it's down to the heavy metals in Devon's water supply - the iron - hence our red soil. But my water kH values are falling and three fish have got tumours! Oh no! trying to find out what i need to do to fix it!
