Science Round Up

I've been very interested in the latest developments in science recently so thought I'd mention a few: CARMAKERS SUED Woke up this morning to the most amazing news that the state of California is suing six carmakers for costs associated with their cars' greenhouse gas emissions. story here Most unlikely that they'll win but boy General Motors, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Chrysler and Nissan are sure likely to think of alternative forms of fuel now. MISSING LINK FOUND Our early ancestors have b

Well I'm back...

Yesterday I had my first alcoholic drink in over eight months and it felt great. I'd recently become bored with my sobriety and there was no way I was going to stick it. I had become resentful towards it, so it seemed fitting that on the way to Peterborough for my first away of the season, I should have my rebirth. I know I'll have to stop drinking again if I lose control (again), but we'll just take it one session at a time. Anyway, I'm absolutely shattered, thank everybody in the heavens

Yes we have a new member of the spud family yesterday evening- Trudis pet so Trudi named - its Sasha I say it as the fellow we got it from said he was 90 percent sure it was girl - which is what we wanted. so will get it checked by a vet this week - shes bonded with us all already - i think she was one of the runts as she is tiny for her age (9 weeks) but we will soon feed her up. fun with Fedora

Geek alert - Fedora is a version of linux. Why does anyone buy Windows? Having just downloaded and installed Fedora, it's bloody brilliant! It's got everything a 'normal' computer user might need included - including an excellent fully featured 'office' suite (word processor, spreadsheet, etc) - and it's dead easy to install! The fun comes when you start to try and set it up anyway from a 'standard' install. So far I've managed to break apache (the webserver that comes with it) several tim

Cash Frenzy - and we're supposed to be saving

Oh no! Having just been to the next gen console thread and having spent the weekend with four kids who all has PSPs and loving the WiFi facility and game share options. I've decided to buy a few new games. So when MCV arrived on my desk with incidentally an interesting write up on the Sony PS3 delays. This combined with an indepth of the new Wii I found which makes the thing look like it's still firmly marketted at kids. I got out my highlighter pen and have made a list of games I'd like: Obv

Family ehhh!

Stitched up like a right kipper I've been and here's for why. Babysitting for my sister tomorrow - looking after my neice while her parents take their yacht out for a race. Fine. she phones me yesterday saying as I can cook (trained chef doncha know) how about I make them a meal for when they get back. Okay I say, conversation meanders on a while, then I say how many am I cooking for? she says 9 to 11 including kids and crew! Nine! Terrific! Also they drink like fishes and yes I know I do,

What could of been ...

Today I am in a particularly good mood, although I don't know how long it will last however. I popped around to my Mum and Dads last night, and they've just come back from a grand tour of Austria and Italy ; we missed them by a few days when we were over in Liguria, but they had a great time - and brought us back lots of goodies from my family (and some they bought themselves). My Auntie did us a wonderful painting of San Terenzo al Mare (the place in my previous 'real' blog entry), it's a

computer death

It's always a real pain when a computer dies, but thankfully my most recent computer deaths have been about as kind as they could possibly be. Prior to this one today, I last had a computer die on boxing day last year. That was my own 'work' computer - the one I run eFestivals from - so it really couldn't have died at a better time. Nothing happens in the festival world between Xmas and new year, so that gave me the chance to get another built and configured before everyone started back at wo

It's all Halls' fault ....

It's all Halls' fault. His continual posting of things like "You are wasted on here" spurred me into action. Unless he thinks I am actually just wasted when I'm on here, in which case I'll have a rethink. I've come to a decision. It's probably partly due to my creativity starting to flow back again after years of drug-induced coma .... regardless, instead of writing rubbish on this site all the time, I thought it might be an idea if I could actually put something together that I could act
