Rhondda Rocks 2013 – The Factory, Porth

Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th August

Back for it’s 2nd successive year, Rhondda Rocks 2013 is the landmark three-day live music event celebrated in the very heart of Rhondda at the iconic Factory Music Venue, Porth, South Wales.

Over one weekend in August, we're giving music-lovers a rare chance to witness local and national musical pedigree over multiple stages. We're pooling together our expertise, ethos and all year programme; in order to unite good people with good music.

Performing at this years Rhondda Rocks festival, we have announced a stellar line-up appealing to many of our audiences musical tastes young and old.

Saturday’s headliners are legendary late-80's band The Primitives, famous for their 1988 international hit 'Crash', which was featured on the hit Jim Carey movie, Dumb and Dumber.

Sunday's headlining act are cheeky mid-90's Liverpudlian band, Space, who came to prominence with global hit singles such as “Female of the Species” and "The Ballad of Tom Jones”. A perfect opportunity for reuniting Tom Jones and Cerys Matthews?

We're also presenting a current wave of new music with appearances from Sweet Baboo aka Stephen Black, a native of the North Wales countryside and a flamboyant single-minded, singer-songwriter. We're particularly excited to present Islet at this years festival. An incredible 4-piece psych-prog outfit from Cardiff, renowned for their explosive live shows. Another highlight, is a slot from Keys, a stomping garage-rock band who draw influence from Frank Zappa, The Black Keys and The Kinks. For lovers of nostalgic indie, also on the bill is legendary Bluetones' frontman, Mark Morriss, who'll be performing versions of his hit singles with a stripped back guitar.

Sticking to our ethos and providing lots of opportunities for homegrown talent, we have performances from The Coalition, Blackbyrd, Replaced with Robots, Zephyr Reign, Cherry Rebels, and many more live acts who will be celebrating Rhondda Rocks with us over the weekend.

The weekend will be bustling with lots more activity including stages designated to comedy and showcasing acoustic artists from all over South Wales. We will also be presenting stalls featuring local independent traders/artists, Rhondda Renegades Roller Derby team, exhibitions, arts activity and all round family-friendly atmosphere throughout.

“It’s such an honor to be involved with Rhondda Rocks 2013. Building upon the success of its first year it’s amazing to see how much the reputation has grown; bringing internationally renowned artists but still striving to give local talent a platform”

Sadye Baker, Festival Marketing and Artist Liaison

“We want to give back to all the people that have supported The Factory as a music venue over this last year. It’s great to be able to bring a festival to the Rhondda for the second year running and that people can come along to and really be part of the experience”

John Davies, Festival Director

“Rhondda Rocks has been a ongoing love-affair for us all at The Factory. We've been steadily bring national talent to the Rhondda over the last twelve months, under the Rhondda Rocks banner. Our festival in August is the pinnacle of this and its going to be an incredible explosion of local and national pedigree over one weekend. Its fair to say, theres lots of hard work ahead but we're really thrilled that such a great event is coming to Rhondda!”
