  3. Interesting article on the north/south split that a lot of acts have. Some arguments can probably be pulled apart but possible valid points on acts being given more time. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/london-music-north-west-bands-b2578908.html?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR081ektfYv2CX2uO5xSeQla57dQkV2jblVMILSWpCMAIm4Ap4KBvTGsfSA_aem_HjrfS4VjE_TWnwlgekNIzw

  6. I fell down a Nick Cave Spotify hole yesterday after the chat here. Mrs 4AM "Who's this?" Me: "Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds" M4AM "He can't sing" (it was Shipyard Song) Me: " He can. Just has a unique voice. Plus it's about the lyricism, emotion and music, not the voice." Pause M4AM: "Can you turn it off. I don't like it." I'm now having an existential crisis and reflecting on my life choices. It's like when an ex of mine admitted she'd never heard of Pearl Jam in a bar. The bartender/I exchanged a look. 2 weeks later I was single again.

  7. Definitely not AS big, but he's one of those artists that has a pretty big following and a few tracks like Red Right Hand and O Children that have featured in Peaky Blinders and Harry Potter. He'd get Kylie for Where The Wild Roses Grow too. The key point is that he's so good live, he'd pull it off. Personally, I don't think they WOULD get that slot, but they'd have as big if not bigger crowd than Kendrick/Metallica and be received even better than those excellent sets. Would be a bold call, but a victory for music.

  8. Psych fans -- don't forget Andrew Savage (Parquet Courts singer) is in the Walled Garden on Saturday. His solo stuff is a bit different, but here's something that you might like if you're a fan of Parkay Quarts:

  19. Honestly, it would make sense to see Pearl Jam back. Their new album was released in April this year. They just did a few shows in Europe and some have been cancelled. Do a longer tour to support the new album and play at RW would make sense. They came in 2010-2012-2014-2018-2022. Nothing weird to see them back in 2025. Even if I don't like the band at all and would love something fresh instead. About the people who hoped to see - or not - RHCP back already in 2025, it won't happen. Chad Smith confirmed they gonna start working on a new album early 2025 when the actual tour is over. With the age of the members, I sadly think it could be their last one...

  20. Yeah "generally enjoy the madness" sounds like the correct approach! Been listening to a couple of playlists and there's definitely plenty of stuff that sounds worthwhile. Agree on Unkle and Ren, other highlights for me have been Chinchilla, High Fade and Getdown Services.

  21. It was a great year! We were sligthly concerned about doing this just a few days after Open'er, but it went fine. We were just slightly more tired 😉Weather was actually good, we stayed in a hotel, so the Friday rain didn't bother us much, though it did get muddy in the end. Best gigs: Arcade Fire, Parcels, Air, Massive Attack, Khruangbin, Shygirl, Slowdive, Mulatu Astatke.

  22. One of the members of pearl Jam seemed to imply that is their intentions to come back next year . Hopefully they will make an apperance next year ! >>>> @officialament #JeffAment ・・・ Goodbye and thank you, European peeps. Nice to finish strong after a rough middle section:/…hopefully we’re back next year, Londoners and Berliners. @iamdave56

  23. Hi looking a little patchy sadly. I live near there. Just to say I hope your Glastonbury was a good one. Mrs Q and I raised a glass to your Mum on Thursday night. Must be a roller coaster for you. Have an incredible wedding on Saturday whatever the weather

  24. Ah, that makes more sense. Although I do now miss out on the idea of Rebecca Lucy Taylor looking down in between each song and seeing one chap happily snoring away on the rail and getting more irate with every passing song.

  28. Yes we had maps again this year, A3 format, though smaller print run than previous years. Saying that we still had a small amount of copies Monday at Gate Info (were open latest on the Monday) - not taken donations for a couple of years. And we were also pointing out the page numbers in the programme of the map.

  29. Yeah tried for Chappell too and no chance, I remember being 7k in the queue for a 5k venue, no idea how long the queue was though It's annoying because when the first shows went on sale it didn't have anywhere near the demand and I could have got tickets, but it was on dates I couldn't make. Then they moved it a week later and added a show but by then she had exploded and the demand was insane! Obviously I chose not to get tickets originally because I couldn't make the date so I didn't qualify for the past buyers presale thing either

  30. Sorry to be that guy....... But you actually do not need signal to check the line up on the app this year. You can turn your phone to aeroplane mode and the line up is still available as it stores locally on your device.

  32. Miming or disguised e-drums used to trigger the samples? There's a really good piece on this here: https://doublechorus.substack.com/p/039-a-finger-drumming-revolution and how many of the tools have always existed but it's taken a new generation of act to make them part of a live show.

  33. We have a four wheel trolley and used foam cut to size to make cushions for the base and sides. A cot sheet will fit over the base foam and my wife made cushion covers for the sides, but pillow cases would do the job well. For the roof we bought some plastic flexible water pipe and bent into a u shape, fixed with pipe clips to the trolley sides. 3 pipes, 4 clips each pipe (2 each side). The cover is some waterproof fabric with loops stitched in to push the pipes through, but you might be able to clip it to the pipes too. Have a bit of excess fabric over the front and rear. Normal pram rain covers can be used front and back to keep out the elements and can be secured with mini hand clamps. Get some bicycle handlebar tape for the handle, you'll really appreciate the soft grip after 5 days of dragging it around! Get some flags and fairy lights to go at eye level to try to stop idiots from falling on to it.

  41. TBF i did stream the last ten minutes of the Fremantle/Sydney AFL game at 7am saturday morning, cos it was a really close game (and my boys won by a point!) but otherwise wanted my phone to essentially just become a camera for the weekend. I'm very much up for one of these digital detoxes and avoid the bloody thing, live in the moment etc!

  47. Drove a Ford Escort for 3 years with a really low driver's seat. Assumed the previous owner was a heavy unit. Now, I'm not a tall bloke, and ended up using a cushion to make the seating position more comfortable. After 3 years I scrapped the car. Upon arriving at the scrappers' to hand it over, I felt down the sides of the seat to make sure I hadn't dropped anything. And my hand brushed a rocker switch. Pressed it and slowly I started to rise up. My dad, who had followed me there to give me a lift home, was howling. 3 feckin' years.
