Can we talk about the actual gig now? 😄 Predicted setlist? Greatest hits or some deeper cuts? Surely a few b sides (acquiesce, half world, masterplan)?4 points

There's already plenty of sneering on social media about how imaginary women won't enjoy the gig properly. I think it'd be nice if we could avoid that here.3 points

As a veteran of around 10, 11, its actually refreshing as to the consistent lack of signal at EoTR. Hardly anyone faffing about on phones. People engaging with their friends, strangers, familiar faces from previous editions. Looks like the traders' WiFi improved this year so there was hardly any payment issues to speak of.3 points

Brilliant reading all the reviews folks. I was there last year for the first time, absolutely loved it but switched to Green Man this year as the dates didn't suit. It's a real hoot listening to you guys and the Green Man efestival contingent trying to find things to complain about. Just accept that ye have the two most beautiful, friendly, lovingly curated festivals on earth and be done with it.2 points

If you are thinking of joining / forming a group (here or elsewhere) for ticket day, this is what I think it's worth knowing in advance: Obviously, the main appeal is to boost your odds of success, which it will (with no guarantees). This comes with some requirements. By the same logic of wanting others to help you out, you'll need to commit to buying other people's tickets alongside your own. This relies on an element of trust that you will buy a ticket / pay a deposit and someone will pay you back straight away (or vice-versa). It can also really mess the group up if one of your mates manages to buy your ticket for you on the day and leaves the rest of your group in limbo, so it's important that you are in one group and one group only (and of you have helpers trying on your behalf on the day, they're also trying for anyone you're committed to helping in the group you've joined). If you're not comfortable sharing your reg details and postcode, buying for internet strangers who will then pay you back, joining a WhatsApp group etc, then you're probably best going solo or sticking to an in-person group of people you know and trust in real life. On the other hand, imagine you snag a ticket in the main sale. Are you going to log on for the resale and hammer F5 in the hope of buying 6 x full price tickets for that one group of random strangers that missed out first time round? If so, we have some spaces in our group for next year...😀2 points
-
The price you pay is the price on the 'ticket' but as there is no physical ticket, just a QR or Bar Code on your account there is nothing preprinted to put aprice on. So any sold at Dynamic Prices will show those prices on the persons account and thus that is the ticket price. That is exactly how hotel and flight bookings work as well. You only get the price you paid when you get the confirmation/ticket.2 points

Ooof, you left Idles before they played The Beachland Ballroom, Never Fight a Man With a Perm, Danny Nedelko and Rottweiler. Like ordering a steak and chips, eating a few chips and then binning the steak. Re: the chatting cúnts. Seems to be fueled by a bit of sniff. Good bit going around this year. Lots of hard bastard chat about people "taking on" their boss at work etc. In the middle of a gig. Wasnt too bad but I did move a couple of times.2 points

My 3rd time at EoTR (previously attended in 2012 and 2022). Good Variety of acts and ease of transitioning between stages can’t be matched, I’m always pleasantly surprised by how much I see and how little effort it takes to navigate the line up. As ever the arena feels safe and welcoming even for a lone woman wandering through the forest after dark. CMAT was joyous, English Teacher were electric, Richard Hawley was a delight and pleasant surprises from Molly Lewis, Sprints, King Hannah, Lip Critic, Jelly Skin and Mermaid Chunky. Couldn’t fault any of the acts I saw, they all performed marvellously. After feeling intensely apprehensive about the composting toilets (I have a dodgy knee and the steps sounded lethal) I thought they were fine. Plenty of loo roll and clean enough across the weekend. The ones with the wooden steps were the best - positively roomy. Barely queued to wee once. Bad It felt busier than previous years and my experience at the stages was mixed, lots of time spent towards the back of crowds with restricted views (or no view at all). I hate to say it but I think they need screens at the Woods and the Garden so that everyone can see the acts rather than just hear them, or else we need a new stage or revised scheduling to reduce the audience sizes across sets. I queued to get into the Big Top and Folly more than once, and gave up on Talking Heads. On a similar theme, more seating needed everywhere especially covered seating like by the Big Top. There’s space for more benches so let’s have them - it might reduce the number of people hauling their own chairs around. Ugly I saw very few sets where I wasn’t stood next to several groups who were just straight-up gabbing away to their mates at normal volume. It didn’t matter where I was in the crowd, people were chatting and laughing without any consideration for others or the musicians. I was surprised by the ages of some of the people doing this, the worst culprits (in my experience) were people in their 40s - 50s who had been to the festival a few times previously. Is it boredom? Arrogance? A lack of self-awareness? It was particularly bad at Bonnie Prince Billy, Lankum and Camera Obscura. I don’t want to hear about how much you enjoyed so-and-so back in the day while there’s another act on now, live, right in-front of you. Please shut up. There were also *a lot* of parents with very young children. I like that the festival is family friendly and it’s magic to see slightly older kids having a dance or their first experience of crowd-surfing, but sometimes it did feel a bit odd to see babies in without ear defenders or toddlers being carted around far past midnight. Several times I nearly stepped on little kids lying on the ground within crowds and had to steer a few infants back towards their frantic parents who had lost sight of them in the dark of the Big Top. And don’t get me started on the poor kid that spent every morning from 6:30am - 8:30am bawling her eyes out in our camp site, she was not a happy camper, and neither was I by Monday morning.2 points

But Gabi said in an interview that they were planned for any of those years iirc. That‘s why I always assumed they‘ll definitely be playing once they come back to Europe. 2022 was an exclusive deal with Hellfest so doesn‘t count.2 points

As a counterpoint, but not wanting to play down StoneCircle's experience (I've said before either in this years thread or the previous year that I thought the way Oxfam treated them was awful) I had a relativity positive experience at Shambala this year. The medical issue that kept me out of Glastonbury this year still had the potential to cause problems at Shambala so I contacted then about 4 weeks before the fest to request an adjustment, right on the deadline for requests. The role I was given (Oxfield supervisor) was fine for my needs if a little dull compared to the fun shifts my friends had in the arena. I also had a few stewards on my team who had RAs which were easier to accommodate in the Oxfield (mostly around not being on their feet for a long period, that sort of thing). These were all relatively straightforward though, I have no idea how they are at dealing with more complex requests.2 points

Ooh that reminds me! We didn't get Losing My Edge did we? I think they replaced it with Daft Punk... which is one of my favourite live songs so I was very content. Yeaaah that second hand ticket market seemed like a free-for-all. I totally understand people feeling a bit let down that some paid as much as €165 while others were paying under €80. But people whining about wanting a refund for The Smile cancelling or Raye being rained off the stage need to get a grip. That's just how festivals are. Especially one that is in its first year. I feel more like an investor than a customer. Still a crazy deal. You're probably right that next year they'll give us some more notice and hopefully be able to announce a solid lineup before everyone already decides on their festivals for the summer. Honestly, if they could bring that sound system back I'd happily pay the full price. Lovely crowd too! People from Madrid are incredibly lovely.1 point

Just to clarify, I love leftfield and interesting (I'd be delighted if they brought back the Late Junction slots). I guess these were meanderings on whether such a change has impacted the demographic and this is why you get more groups standing around talking and more substance fuelled shouting. If you have a crowd not that well versed in the music, for some it will be a discovery but for a lot it will be something on in the background while you chat with friends. Anyway, I won't derail more with negatives as I had a bloody great time.1 point

Yeah Bloc Party were superb, but their new stuff isnt great . It was the old stuff that held the show together. I find it hard to articulate, but it just feels like it's the end of the naughties and tens "officially". Covid might have bought us the odd reunion or anniversary tour cash grab, but it feels like the candle is about to burn out for good on most of the bands I held dear. Im turning into the guy in the Rolling Stones T Shirt harking back to the good old days.1 point

Are we thinking more 80s Cher (lots of black and very revealing) or more modern Vegas-Cher - more covered up but like a walking firework?1 point

My ideal headliner would be Gerry Cinnamon. After seeing Blossoms recently think they are ready to step up to Headliner level - certainly a step up from Paulo Nutini and Jamie T this year. Would like to see Wolf Alice on the bill and also Fontaines DC but think their stock will be too high for Tramlines. On the undercard would like to see Red Rum Club, The K's, Inhaler, Shed Seven and Ocean Colour Scene a the Heritage acts, Royston Club and Rianne Downey. Maybe someone like Rick Astley or Girls Aloud for the Sunday Headliners, although at a wedding that day so hopefully a bad line up 😁1 point

Horace Andy was great with Massive Attack, and he's 73 🙂 I also went to a festival last year of guitar bands from the 90s, and even some from the 80s. Still a surprising amount of energy in bands that peaked around 89-91, so the young pups from the 00s have a little time yet 🙂1 point

The good: some of the best festival performances I’ve ever seen. EOTR does seem to get the best out of many artists. Top 3 musical highlights for me were Richard Dawson, Lankum and Yo La Tengo. The bad: very little! Despite some of the best ‘known’ performances I had less new discoveries than usual. Perhaps I’m being overly grumbly, but at times there were just too many disinterested children being dragged about in trolleys. Love that EOTR is family friendly, and perhaps this year it was just good timing with back to school, but especially round the garden stage it all got a bit ‘Sunday afternoon at a national trust property’ for me. But really, I’d take that over many of the alternatives. The ugly: actually nothing. Really improved the toilets this year, fortunate with the weather and I managed to behave myself. Thank you EOTR!1 point

I feel like I got a bit lucky as I didn't have any problems. Wristband worked fine, didn't even queue for five minutes to get in on any day (although was there early as the first day is often rammed, so missed the queue), never queued for a toilet for more than a minute, never queued for food, and only once had to wait to be served at the bar - and that was because the bar man was distracted by someone far younger and prettier than myself. Getting home was a breeze, with the metro running late, and I was able to walk on without any trouble each night. Not sure how close to capacity it was, but even with LCD I was able to watch all but the last Postal Service song, and then simply walked to maybe 20 metres from the main stage, and I'm definitely not someone who pushes past people, so was impressed with all the space. That was the busiest set by far, with everything else even easier to get a good spot for. The music was brilliant - Massive Attack exceeded all expectations, while LCD and Postal Service are two of my all time favourites. But so many bands were much better than expected. English Teacher sounded so good, and their version of New York I Love You was amazing- The Kills were great, but I'm glad I left to see English Teacher. Monobloc sounded great, and the Gossip were a lot of fun. Yard Act were stunning - a real surprise, and one of the best live acts I've seen recently. As with @Yokai I was unexpectedly blown away by Raye. I'd listened to her set on spotify and though it was so-so, but live I thought her voice was amazing, and I was glad I saw the whole set. I only caught five minutes of Nation of Language, as I doubt I'll ever get to see Postal Service again, and thought they sounded great, so I can see why people have that as a highlight. Yves Tumor was such a wonderful way to round things, off too. I'd heard suggestions that the band was about to implode, but they sounded brilliant, and were such a great way to finish the festival. All in all, it's one of the best festivals I've been to - although I think it luckily aligned with many of my own tastes - and that's even with being a big fan of Soulwax and The Smile. And let's face it - it sounds like we were all lucky to have gone to Lisbon instead of Madrid!1 point

Here is a link to the accessible information provided by Oxfam - https://festivals.oxfam.org.uk/info/accessibility/ I am an ex Oxfam Steward with accessible needs having requested reasonable adjustments and them being agreed to at 5 festivals I volunteered with for Oxfam between 2016 & 2022. It is unbelievable that at 4 of 5 they completely failed to cater for my reasonable adjustments once I had got to the festival. I personally would never volunteer with them again. 🤦🏻1 point

What about others in the same industry that are really struggling to earn a living wage because everyone's spent their gig money to see one band1 point

Everything I saw was outstanding. Loved the new folly. Exhausted cos I watched so much stuff. But personally, it had felt a bit shabby last couple of years - unreal energy to the place this year. Felt like a rebirth1 point

Okey dokey, time for a debrief for the few people in this forum. I think the overall consensus for me put simply is this... Probably the ugliest festival site I've ever seen. One of the strongest rainstorms I've been caught in at a festival. Easily the best sound I've ever had at a festival. Probably the best bang for buck you're going to get anywhere in Europe. That lineup (even with the acts that dropped out/got cancelled) was ridiculous. After doing Primavera, Glasto and other festivals this summer it was actually such a treat to just have 2 proper stages back to back with almost no filler. That Saturday could easily be one of my favourite festival days ever. Aside from some minor bar queueing on the Saturday I had a stress free experience. I know they probably took a huge loss on this one but with Mad Cool being way too hot and Primavera Madrid never coming back, this is probably the best festival Madrid has now in my opinion. Would welcome a Kalorama 2025 with open arms. Very curious what others thought. HIGHLIGHTS: - English Teacher - Postal Service - LCD - Yves Tumor - Overmono - Ezra - Olivia Dean - Massive Attack - Jungle But enjoyed pretty much everything I saw. Peggy Gou the only lowlight for me but that was expected.1 point

Really surprised by people having a negative experience at Morrissey gigs, I’ve seen him a few times and he’s always been incredible. Naturally, I’d love a Smiths reunion but I’ve loved the more recent solo material, so a Morrissey gig ticks all the boxes for me. I understand why some people have an issue with him and that’s fair enough.1 point

Really hope Nova Twins can push on though they have been dining out on that last album for a few years now. As quality as it was its time for them to do something new and I think it all depends how good that next release is as to where they fall on the line up.1 point

It’s not Linkin Park without Chester. Yeah, I know people said the same about Pantera without the Abbott Bros. but it still sounds like Pantera because it’s still Phil’s voice. No matter who LP get, it isn’t going to sound the same. I’m not interested either way as I don’t really like Linkin Park and wouldn’t be fussed about seeing them if Chester was still around.1 point
