I certainly don’t think there should be profit taken from peoples illness and misfortune as people become older … better pay which can be reinvested through taxation yes but national care and the removal of the need / lowering the need for agency work seems to be the way forward for both social care and the nhs in general .

all the best over next few weeks , I understand that pain of demanding customers ( although fortunately ive only got 4 more busy shifts that I tick off , friday approaching being the worst day of the year )

I was talking with my mate last night who's mum has been in a home for 4 years because of dementia and the costs of it ... and the struggle of that industry to get carers because of the poor pay . not quite sure why the costs of care are so astronomical and the pay so rubbish ? why would carers choose wiping bums where a retail pay ( for example is similar ) Presumably an issue because its all driven by profit and shareholders ?

Id be screwed as someone with pre existing medical conditions in the US ... has anyone seen the cost of insulin? although I believe Biden has brought the cost down somewhat . I dont think anyone can argue that the NHS isn't on its knees now and its going to take time to sort it , My worry is Labour will continue with privatisation plans , I think they started under Blair maybe ? maybe they should have a separate NHS and social care tax ? however its strength is in many of the people it employs and retaining those is massively important

I think you've made this point quite a few times now and its not gaining much from a discussion point of view

moderation has recently restarted to help the site and Neil , its not totally new as it has had other moderators in the past but the aim from me personally is to be fair and to help the site and the thread be open to all ... and thats why I prefer it without the personal stuff ... I was looking back at some of the earlier posts and there were many more people posting in this thread and hopefully we can get back to that rather than the loop we are currently on .

i think its also fair to moderators to let them do a job ( thats voluntary ) without people trying to influence the decisions . This thread is the only one that invokes complaints from both sides of the discussion . Ive quoted you but applies to all .

The GMB is the Union that represents us … I’m currently not because our rep is pretty useless tbh , but am considering it based on bigger things and I can always go above that level . They have brought about better pay the last time . Still significantly short of any amount that’s required to live though

I wonder if the GMB have considered striking and getting a fair deal for supermarket workers ? £10 ph ? Is that reasonable I guess it’s unskilled but not without its own demands
