I could easily be way off, but I do think it's strange they're seemingly going back to ground so soon after releasing the album.

11 months after the album vs 14 months after on the AM tour. Yeah it's still possible they might do a second set of European festivals (despite little credible suggestion they that will) to make it similar length but I don't think it's particularly strange if they don't. Looks to be a similar amount of time after compared to pre-AM albums too, if not longer.

Don't think this stacks up really. I don't but they would be 'stung' by it and will take an unscheduled about turn. They aren't complete idiots so knew the album was going to divide more than AM and it realistically isn't a permanent direction they will take. The critical reception has been pretty good and the gigs they did sold really well.

As for not touring, they did a fair amount of festivals last year and quite a lot of sizable gigs off the back of it in the UK, Europe and elsewhere. Just checked and it appears they are still going in Australia and South America.

Hadn't seen this. Yes, absolutely also this.

It does seem there's something odd going on with the AMs at the moment - Album out last year, you'd think they'd be touring the shit out of it this summer. I still think the backlash to TBHC has stung them and they've gone back to make another AM to keep "real guitar music" crowd happy.

I think you're way off on this one. Making music of any certain nature to please people is exactly the opposite of what Arctic Monkeys are and there's plenty of evidence to prove it. Take '09-'11 for example. Humbug had a similarly divisive response but did they go and make another like their debut or 2nd? No, they changed paths completely again to create the poppier SIAS. Expect another change of course that's perfectly in line with Turner's attitude - always looking forward, serial songwriter, always trying new things. Fitting lyrics from way back:

Don't care if it's marketing suicide
    We won't crack or compromise
    Your derisory divides
    Will never unhinge us

    are AMs currently touring yes

    are Killers currently touring no

When we say they're touring in the context of playing Glastonbury, it means touring this summer. As far as all of us know, as well as those much more in-the-know than us, Arctic Monkeys have no plans to tour this summer.

Has that just been announced? Don't remember seeing anything, may have just passed me by

It was a leak. Many tweets and posts have been deleted now so that would explain why you haven't seen it. Official announcement expected tomorrow.

Yeah they’ll definitely be playing open-air afternoon slots here and there. I don’t see them opening the Other though, why would anyone want this?

Yeah I don't actually think they will tbh, just putting it back out there as a possibility within the dates announced given many were predicting it previously. There are other reasons for them not to do that slot, just think the lack of darkness isn't one of them.

    They need darkness really

Saw them at Ally Pally and the lights were good but how many acts are better in the dark? Only so many darkness slots available.

The xx, for example, are infinitely better in the dark. But they didn't turn down subbing the Pyramid because of it.

There has always been a general stuffiness towards Foals on here. They appear to be considered just above CATB derision I feel. Screw you all and bring on that Other headline set!

Haha no chance. Many like Foals and were open to hearing a good tune last night. The likes of Kasabian, Kings of Leon, Two Door Cinema Club, The Killers and Biffy Clyro all well below Foals here.

But yes, bring on that Other headline set.

I clearly wrote that before any more UK dates were out.

Should’ve written ‘but now back in...’. Was meant to develop rather than correct. Apologies

They’re in Croatia between then and Glastonbury.

But then back in Bournemouth on the 26th. Anyway, when asked about Glasto the answer was “we genuinely don’t know anything. If Emily is listening, we’d love to”

So sorry if I've missed this but why are The Killers not being remotely considered?

JP set was monumental. Enough big hits. Great live.

They've been considered at reasonable length, haha. Sometime mid-end of last week if you wanna catch up on the discussion.

The Strokes have 2 top 10 singles (12:51 and Juicebox) whilst Arcade Fire have 0.

I can't believe of all their songs, it's these two.

I obviously can't vouch for it myself (I was 5 when their debut came out) but according to people in here they were absolutely everywhere when they were at their peak and you couldn't go to an indie club night or whatever without hearing them. I dunno if you're just not grasping how massive they were when they released those first two albums or what.

    You still can't.

  13. I don't dislike Elbow as much as most of efests seems to, but they would be a very stale booking in a big slot again (and it would be @Hugh Jass - no reason why they'd fall that far down). This was said a lot in the run up to 2017, it would be even worse having them yet again at the very next festival (yes I know it was a 'secret' set but still).

Ok so don’t groan but I reckon it could be The Strokes on Day 0.

They would have to add a day to fit them in and they’re obviously not exclusive. Then it’s apparently on the grounds (unlike MGMT) and they wouldn’t bother with that for anything small - reduced capacity ofc but I imagine the day would be a single stage so that’s sensible - and I’m sure it’d be great for weekend tickets even if it is a separately ticketed event.

Nice one for adding yet another loop to my ‘can I see the Strokes in 2019?’ emotional rollercoaster.

Would Jules fancy the 5 days in a row with travelling in between though? ?

Whats wrong with Artists having fun? I'm not the biggest AM fan but Ive always enjoyed them when I've seen them. I actually really like covers too more big bands should do them, nothing wrong with that imo.

Nothing wrong with them having fun, but reports from that tour seem to suggest it was to the detriment of the sets (I wasn't there). I love a good cover too, and AM/TLSP have done many great ones. The timing of it at second song in the set is trolling a bit though, don't you think?

However, their gigs since (my experience and most others, but not some in this forum) have been much better, especially the shows in the UK.

I saw Arctic Monkeys headline Leeds in 2009 and it still remains the worst live performance I've seen by any artist.

That gig (and Reading of course) is talked about amongst AM fandom as the peak of their fucking about days and it annoyed a fair few people. Dropping a Nick Cave cover as the second song is taking the piss a bit tbf.
