I reckon the strokes are gonna play lovebox about the right size fest for them to headline, will throw the money at them and around the same time as the BBK dates
The same Lovebox whose last few headliners have been Childish Gambino, N.E.R.D, Skepta, Frank Ocean and Chase & Status?

Are we sure the Monkeys aren't touring? Find strange to think they wouldn't take TBHC to Glastonbury/Reading and Leeds...
They played Glastonbury on the previous album though, bit soon to be back (in terms of new material, not albums). I think they'll be back in 2020 or 2021. Possibly a similar situation with R&L but they might be a bit off-brand these days. Besides, we know the 2019 headliners for both festivals and they're not there. Whether they do anymore European fests is another matter but it doesn't look like it.

At least The Cure still headline major festivals, do The Strokes any more? Honest question, haven't really seen them on many lineups over the last few years so not sure where they would place these days.
Only frame of reference I have these days is that BST gig a few years back which sold so badly they were giving tickets away in the build up to it.
Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Primavera Sound and Benicassim spring to mind from very recent years. Reading and Leeds if you go back a little further. But no, they're not gonna headline Glastonbury. Secret set is the best chance, I reckon.
-
Any reason why they wouldn't do BST? Surely still big enough to headline and the timing should work. Agree Latitude seems most likely though.

Both of JC's bands playing, I wonder how many festivals that will happen at?
Will be very frustrating if he shows up with Voidz whilst the Strokes are an active band that would be ready to play. A Strokes secret set would be both a possibility and the subject of relentless rumours leading up to and throughout the festival, I'm sure.

Don't expect The Strokes at Mad Cool.
Gutted about that. But overall, the damage (in terms of acts ruled out of Mad Cool) is very limited (for me, at least).
Also, just noticed that Florence and the Machine are playing in Madrid in March - guessing that rules them out? Thought it made a lot of sense until I saw that.
-
I can't remember where we got to on the likelihood of them playing this, but the Strokes are now confirmed to be about next summer. Playing BBK Bilbao in July.
-
What have Snow Patrol done to get anywhere near even co-headlining this? Genuine question. Or are we just guessing acts as opposed to headliners?

If last year's announcement structure is anything to go by and the pre-xmas comments are to be believed, then tomorrow (or maybe Friday) looks a good bet for an announcement. Last year, they announced a few including Tame Impala on the morning of Thurs 14th Dec.

Very likely for Mad Cool now, surely.

Which bookings fall into this bracket though? I've seen Future mentioned as a poor live performer, anyone else?
I'm not saying anyone in particular is a poor live performer, just that there's not necessarily a strong positive correlation between releasing a quality/critically acclaimed album in 2018 and producing a great set. I think there are other factors that should be taken into account when judging how good a line up is and it seems to be taken for granted that top recent albums > great festival experience. It's a great line-up in terms of freshness and many will discover wonderful new acts but previous lineups (including 2018's that I attended) have been better balanced IMO. In other words, I personally feel this line-up is a bit too recent trend-driven.

I agree with this and have been thinking the same thing for the last few days. Far too much stock seems to be being placed in those end of year lists. To me they are not indicative of quality at all. Any old rag magazine or website with an agenda can have their say!
Even if we accept for a minute that they're a great indicator of the quality of an album, they're not indicative of either live performance ability or other successful or recognisable albums/songs - both of which I think are pretty crucial to most people's enjoyment of artists at a festival.

Does the lack of a 1991 teaser not indicate there actually is no announcement Tuesday? I find it hard to believe they’re going to revert to single act announcements this week when there are supposedly an extra forty names being revealed by mid-December.
Whilst I agree about today, worth nothing that last year there were clues for artists that were part of a multi-act announcement. Not optimistic but there could be one clue today, ten acts tomorrow etc

Do we have information putting Hot Chip on WH, or is that just a best guess because it worked so well last time and they're the same size?
Neil said in another thread that he heard they'd been offered it (Sat WH specifically) but didn't know if they'd accepted. Someone else mentioned that Joe Goddard had said to them they're playing.

Where's this from then?

Are they not 1989?

Thom Yorke on Saturday so I can go Macca then leave when it's shite.
But it's clearly the second half of the set that's gonna be incredible! (Yes, I know you're referring to his performance rather than setlist but still).

Greta Van Fleet nominated for 4 Grammys. Best new artist, best rock performance, best rock song and best rock album. @dentalplan will be chuffed.

could headline the barn on the 27th, then fly back to play 29 in milwakee
Bon Iver are only headlining festivals by the looks of it. Even if they weren't, looking at recent Barn acts, surely too big for it.

Bon Iver's doing a festival in America on the 29th June. Also has Julien Baker.
So that means no Bon Iver, Julien Baker nor boygenius this year.
Fuck. The dream is dead. *Purchases All Points East Ticket*

Would that be Noel effectively agreeing he's a fading or second division star accepting that slot?
Not when he's told himself and the general public that it's so he can get pissed for the rest of the weekend.

Wasn't sure where to put this but this thread seems just about the most suitable. The Spotify stats site is now up and running for your top 2018. Was pretty fun last year and the playlist it generates is great so thought you'd all like to know. Enjoy.

Honestly I like the Mad Cool lineup a bit more but the PS lineup makes me kind of ashamed to do so. Mainly because of Greta Van Fleet.
Haha. Tbh I knew nothing about them until last week,. When I heard the name I think I thought they were a female solo artist like Sharon Van Etten. I listened to two songs and thought they were a pale imitation of classic rock and didn't get much further.

If this was a response to me, I'm not suggesting these two acts should've played at all. But clearly there's been a shift away (except maybe Tame Impala) from these what I would consider your typical PS headliners that fill half of Mordor (Radiohead, Arcade Fire etc as well) and I find it strange that people would now consider these type of acts (rather than the acts themselves) yesterday's news. Mad Cool largely has the exact type and stature of acts that PS have booked (and delighted PS attendees) over the last few years, yet it's being criticised here.

A couple of obvious big names such as New Order wouldn't have hurt, but overall I think this line-up has plenty of quality and makes Mad Cool look like a lumbering dinosaur. I think there is some history with Smashing Pumpkins which ruled them out (I may be imagining that). Cardi B and Carly Rae are WTFs though.
A lumbering dinosaur that has two of the most popular and critically-acclaimed headline acts from recent Primavera history (Bon Iver and the National) as well as some of the acts seemingly most desired from this thread for this year's PS (The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Vampire Weekend) whilst most of the undercard isn't out yet. How's that work? Has Primavera moved on so quickly from acts like this that anything from 2018 and before is now considered the Mesozoic era?

It has been pointed out on the thread for this that Wolf Alice and Bloc Party are on the poster shared on Foo Fighters’ Twitter.
Good spot. That Wolf Alice being offered Other info is looking very good now.
Mad Cool 2019
in overseas festivals
Posted
The one day it definitely won't be is Friday. BBK is Thurs-Sat, same as Mad Cool. The Voidz and The Strokes are both playing BBK so if it happens it'd be Thursday or Saturday with JC's 2 bands playing consecutive days in Bilbao. One thing that makes it a lot less likely though, is the lack of overlap between the two festival's acts. I'm not sure there were any in 2018 and it's just that Spanish band for 2019 so far.
