    Needs some thoughts and advise...

I have 7 trying for 7 tickets next week - obviously this needs to be done in 2 groups... how would you split the group?  I am thinking 4 and a 3 and obviously if one gets through they then start for the other group... does this seem sensible?

    #ticketdaypanic

Although it means one person could be very unlucky, you could ensure more people get to go by pre-agreeing that each person (when getting through) leaves a certain different person out - Person 1 tries for 1,2,3,4,5,6, Person 2 tries for 2,3,4,5,6,7 etc. And then of course everyone tries for that final person after. Might be better than 2-3 people needlessly (potentially) missing out.

In-group relationships could scupper this of course (if there's one person who clearly links the group for example), but it's worth considering.

Judging by the 2 times I saw them at festivals over the summer, that won't happen. Not if the set is heavy on the new stuff anyway.

It's not that the album itself is that divisive for the casual listener, it isn't that hard to listen to. But I feel like much of their core fanbase who got into them off the back of the first 2 albums hate it. There were plenty of people leaving during the back end.

Which festivals were these? They've generally been playing 5 off the latest album per set, less than off AM (questionable decision) and not many more than the first 2 albums (3/4) each. When you consider one of those TBHC songs is Four Out Of Five which has been getting a great reception, it's really not many at all, certainly a lot less than most acts play off their latest album. Can't imagine that number would go up for a Glasto headline set where they're more likely to bring out classics.

It’s generally seen on here as being pretty dull. It’s strange, that set seems to be revered by people who weren’t there. I saw it described on reddit as “the most fun and liveliest they ever played in that era”, but based on this forum people who enjoyed it seem to be the minority.

It is revered by people who were there too. Given it was my favourite band at my favourite festival, it's something that's come up a lot since and I've honestly not spoken to one person who didn't think it was at least great (including all the people I was there with). It's considered a resounding success on the AM forum too. Was quite baffled to see the comments on here recently describing it as 'boring' etc. For better or worse, like we've seen with many other artists/sets, this forum isn't often representative of the views of Glasto attendees, let alone the wider world of music and festival fans.

I listened to Shiny Happy People after Rose-Colored Boy's post but didn't recognise it. Will give the others a bash and see if I know them.

I don't work in an office or have parents that play Smooth FM so maybe that's why :P

Fair enough. I couldn't tell you where but I feel like they're used in TV and films a lot. I did just remember that this happened though:

Image result for it's the end of the world as we know it spotify

For the record I only know Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts, The One I Love (because it was on Guitar Hero) and Orange Crush (because Editors covered it) by them.

I'm not a huge fan or anything but I'd surprised if you didn't recognise one, if not all, of End Of The World As We Know It, Shiny Happy People and Man On The Moon.

so, info coming thick and fast. Only a few days ago I was arguing against this....

In the last 24 hours I've had two different whispers in my ear saying The Cure are headlining ... although one of them also comes with a separate bit of conflicting info that suggests - only suggests - that it might not be true.

Despite that this is one I have to take seriously. It shouldn't really be wrong, tho I do have a bit of trouble personally believing that its correct.

Would you say it's possible that conflating info could mean they're not headlining the Pyramid and actually headlining the Other, meaning both could potentially be right in one way? Or was it that they're not there at all?

Wish the Arctics would push off and let the other kids have a go. I mean I didn't mind that new album (wasn't compelled to give it a second listen tho) but they've played twice and fucked it twice.

Can you elaborate of what you mean by 'fucking it twice'? You're not the only one here to have criticised it (usually "boring") but what was it about the 2013 set that you thought was so bad? Setlist choices, crowd interaction, mistakes? Admittedly, I'm a big fan (as I'm sure you can tell if you remember the first song off aforementioned album) but I've never heard anyone outside this forum consider that particular set anything other than a huge success and I thought it was a fantastic show (both being there and watching it back) so I'm surprised. The main criticism I'd have of Turner is his lack of or lazy crowd interaction at times, but he was good that night with a bunch of memorable lines. They probably played all their best known tunes too. If you don't like them/their songs then fair enough, but I'm struggling to understand how they 'fucked it'.

  8. Needless to say, this isn't solid. But this guy runs the Arctic Monkeys forum and always has very accurate information (everything he said about the album and tour this year was spot on). When he says 'a guy who knows things', I'm inclined to believe him. But as the source doesn't name Glastonbury specifically...what other June festivals could be described as 'iconic'?

  9. In Lisbon chilling after Mad Cool and have just spotted this is on tonight. I love the xx and Justice so it’s very appealing. Can’t seem to find an efests page for this year’s festival. Any specific reason for that Neil? @eFestivals e.g. Something about it making you reluctant to promote? (Apologies if I’m just being useless and have missed it)

Those that have been - is it easy enough to get back to the city afterwards? Anything else worth mentioning? Thanks!

Were you on the 10:05  as well then?

So wheres everyone planning on watching the game later? I’d like a bit of an atmosphere and so far the two likely candidates are O’Connell’s St or James Joyce. Thinking about it, will Irish bars take kindly to me walking in with an England top? ?

The majority of people in here are in England tops mate. It’s an English pub tonight ?

As for AM I can see where people are coming from, though I enjoyed them myself they could have had a bit more crowd interaction and perhaps finished on something stronger given they were the closing act.

What do you think would be a stronger closer than 505?! I'm so glad they've moved it there and I hope stays there, it's been the best closer they've had. It felt strange earlier on in the set and R U Mine isn't a great one to end on IMO

Can you please check if they'll have english commentary too? If so, see you there. Cheers

Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay both headlined on two albums (not even sure Rush of Blood was even out when Coldplay did it in 02). Not sure how many Mumfords had either, felt like one never ending album.

Mumford also did it on 2. But surely all 3 of those acts (even Mumford) had multiple times more recognisable songs (to the vast majority) than Stormzy does (and I can't imagine a second album changing that dramatically). Whether or not that is crucial is debatable but a lot of criticism of poor headliners in the past and fears over future ones has revolved around the crowd not knowing the songs (including Mumford who were very popular at that particular time). Sure, he'd be an interesting booking but I can't see how he's big enough in the ways that really matter in this context.

Thursday: Fleet Foxes (half of it to get a good spot for Tame Impala), Tame Impala, Pearl Jam, Justice, MGMT.

Friday: Sofi Tukker, Ofenbach or James Bay, Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand (3 of my favorite artists will be back to back so I don't know who I will see after that amazing 5 Hours)

Saturday: LP, Jack Johnson, Queens of the Stone Age, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Jet (until they play Are you gonna be my girl?) then Dua Lipa, Underworld

Your comment about leaving Fleet Foxes to get a good spot for TI has intrigued me. Will it not be possible to get a good spot (or at least a decent one with only a short distance to move after) at the Cool stage on the side nearest to the Mad stage and get good sound/view there for the whole Fleet Foxes set? It looks possible from the site visual but maybe I'm perceiving the size of the stages incorrectly
