  1. I think having the first minister and chief executive as husband and wife was always going to be problematic. I am not sure if it was arrogance or stupidity that allowed it to continue. It looks like the new SNP leader will win because he isn’t the other 2, which doesn’t seem like a platform for success.
  2. I prefer 64 as it makes qualification more likely for Wales. I also think continents outside Europe and South America get underrepresented with 32. People talk about diluting the quality, I’m not convinced there is a huge gap between the teams ranked around 20 and 64.
  3. To me that’s the ideal champions league draw. The thought of a combination of Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern fighting it out in a final was not interesting to me.
  4. I don’t get this argument that they need to keep the group stage at 4 teams because of how exciting the last world cups group stage was. The reason the group stage was exciting was because half the teams went out. That jeopardy will go with 2/3 of the third teams going through. I think it’s fine however to justify it based on the fact 3 game groups are a terrible idea. To be honest if they are going to stick with 4 team groups and a last 32, they may as well expand to 64, I suspect they will in the future.
  5. I think if it was just based on the accusation he would probably be ok. However in this case the audio and photos exist. I can’t see how he can play for Man Utd (or England) again on that basis. He can probably go abroad and get away with it.
  6. I have no doubt they could have done something more targeted. I am not clever enough to know what that is! People talk about the gold plated pensions (although they are constantly becoming less gold) but I suspect only doctors and senior management go above that limit.
  7. While I generally agree. I know from following some doctors I respect on twitter the pension rules were not making it worthwhile for them to work and many retired early. How can we incentivise these to stop working without doing something on pensions?
  8. The trouble of people staying in work for longer is it blocks off opportunities for the next generation.
  9. I can’t believe I just heard Braverman talk about how MPs should watch the words they use, she is probably the most guilty MP when it comes to this.
  10. Could do, but I don’t see goals in those 3 teams either.
  11. I think Wolves should stay up. They have a decent manager, generally look good when I see them, just don’t have a forward! Still Southampton, Leeds and Bournemouth for me.
  12. I would imagine that’s mainly because of the publicity. It would be interesting to see if they did it for a few weeks what the impact would be. I am open to changing the format, don’t think we should do it this way because we always have.
  13. I am interested if it’s a decent pundit, trouble is BBC have generally not had that in recent years and comfortably overtaken by ITV during the World Cup. I am a bit lost as to why Lineker isn’t allowed political views but other (non news staff) are. Is it just because Lineker is more popular?
  14. I personally agree with Redwood. When I watch MOTD I generally just go on my phone for the pundits/interviews as I am not interested in what they have to say. I think Redwood is however making a political point rather than a discussion about the best format for the show.
  15. If the viewing figures stay the same without the presenters, you may as well save the money that you use to pay presenters. So unless the fans boycot the show I think it will fizzle out.
  16. I think any pain will be short term. Football fans just won’t be willing to give up football and make a stand.
  17. In terms of the news coverage we agree, the left think they are right and the right think they are left, this suggests to me they are generally doing ok.
  18. That’s probably a fair point. If a high profile BBC figure was behind the boats policy strongly, there would definitely be those on the left wanting them removed.
  19. For those who can’t understand Linekers point about language, one holocaust survivor seemed to have similar concerns a couple of months ago. When I hear you using words against refugees like ‘swarms’ and an ‘invasion’, I am reminded of the language used to dehumanise and justify the murder of my family and millions of others. “Why do you find the need to use that kind of language?”
  20. I have no issue with Karen Brady having pro Tory views. I think Huw Edward and Chris Mason have to be more neutral. I don’t think it’s hard to draw the line.
  21. I think Le Tissier is waiting by the phone!
  22. Am I the only one thinking MOTD with no pundits would be a better show!
  23. I agree, I would get rid of Lineker because I think he is poor value for money, nothing to do with what he puts on twitter.
  24. I reckon Jenas wants his job so he will be there.
