I thought Argentina were the best team in both the final and tournament, so deserved winners. A great final, which in my view was only spoiled slightly by the penalties. Also agree about the mental strength of Argentina, to lose 2-0 leads twice and prevail was great, previous Argentina teams would have fallen apart.

Not the greatest finalists, but by far the best final I have ever seen.

I just fancy France on penalties.

France well on top towards the end. Argentina have more options from the bench now and need to use them effectively.

Poor from a mental perspective? I would disagree, I think even under pressure they have stayed calm. 2 goals down and heads could have dropped, but discipline has remained, just as it did in last 2 games. Also you have to give credit to Deschamps for making the right calls with substitutions. I remember Man U winning 2 champions league finals when they were quite poor, the players and fans didn't care as they lifted the trophy.

I don't agree. I think for all their weaknesses this France team are mentally strong. Other teams would have folded and lost their discipline.

Finding a way when you are not playing well is what champions do.

Seems harsh to expect him to perform the last couple of games he missed from injury. I just think some of these pundits judge players purely through the lens of how they were in the premiership.

I normally like Dixon, but what was he talking about when he said Did Maria owed Argentina a performance. He scored the winning goal in the Copa America only a year ago.

You look at France and then were the most hit by injuries before the world cup and possibly the team most hit by injuries and rotation during the world cup. This has resulted in Giroud playing 3 difficult games in 8 days and I think overall the squad has been stretched to breaking point.

So are people watching BBC or ITV today. I always watched BBC because of lack of adverts, but I think ITV coverage has overtaken them. I jumped to ITV last world cup and will stay with them today.

I work in the NHS in the community and a good carer can make a huge difference. The trouble is we undervalue them which results in huge turnover of staff. In my view it's short sighted as good carers result in less hospital admissions and therefore save money, but you need to invest to get those savings down the line. I agree with labour that a national care service is the way forward.

Free hospital parking sounds great in theory and it definitely is for out of town hospitals. However my experience in Wales is for hospitals in towns/cities people just use them for free parking and walk into town. The principle of free parking is a good one, but it doesn't always work in practice. As for the others people may question if this is progressive us of taxpayers money. I would argue that millionaires should be paying for some of this stuff on top of their tax.

Is all the discussion about whether Maddison would make the England squad or not, a perfect example of how pointless the debate is on the people who make up the numbers in an international squad.

I know I'm in the minority, but one odd thing is the timing and I personally think that has benefited the tournament. A lot of the talk about moving it was just because of "this is the way we have always done it" rather than sporting merit. Lack of/ more expensive alcohol has been a good thing. I also get the impression looking at the crowds it's a bit less segregated and why shouldn't fans of other clubs sit next to each other and not fight. In terms of quality it is to me lacking the top class players in/near their peak and that is why I favour France 98. An example being I would only take Mbappe, Griezmann and Lloris from this team to that one. I also am not a fan of the one city thing. I think part of the appeal of the world cup is the culture different cities in one country bring to a tournament. Saying that I wouldn't want to go the route of Euro 2021 which just seemed like random countries with no link.

To me a big part of the tournament are the hosts on that basis I would agree Brazil was better. This tournament has no real identity, it is just a load of football matches. In terms of the football matches you had the group stage shocks, but most of the big teams still going through, a very good final set of group games. Some fun teams like Japan and Australia that made their point, but didn't outstay their welcome. A competitive underdog like Morocco. Also it's delivered a more exciting final than 2018 which was hampered by a skewed knockouts with the best teams on one half of the draw.

Oh I completely agree. The tournament should never have gone there. I am however more open minded about a winter world cup now. I think the players have been overall fitter. I also am now questioning the role of alcohol. I think limiting it has overall not been a terrible thing, however also noting the location probably stopped a lot of idiots travelling. Its a game of opinions, but I thought WC 02 was a poor one. Spain and Italy screwed by officials, a lot of mediocre teams progressing through the knockouts, a really poor Germany team coming second and completely carried by 2 players.

While all the criticism of the decision to give Qatar are valid. It may be recency bias, but I am thinking (on the pitch) this is the best world cup since France 98.

1 of them has left to be a consultant in microbiology, a lot less stress for similar money. Others are in surgery, but I hope you will accept there are times they need to leave to visit housebound poorly people.
