hellybelly
It is my 1st IOL festival and I am soooo excited. Just wandering if it is worth taking a car?? The ferry times are obviously a bit rubbish now but I am wandering if ppl who have been before could give me some advice. How far is the festival off the over side?? russellelly
In my opinion no. It's not cheap, and with the passenger ferry it's much faster and there's plenty of buses on the island to take you to right outside the festival entrance. Plus no need to worry about how much you're drinking on the Sunday night. I've done passenger ferries from Portsmouth and Southampton in previous years, no hassle at all
Lauz_Abbott
i found it easier to take the car last year.....saves the hassle of getting buses, trains etc and split between me and my 2 friends i take the cost doesnt work out too much either

manda
Think it depends on why you think you need it. If you need it from the point of view of getting from the ferry to the festival then no you don't need it as the shuttle buses are excellent. If you have loads of stuff to take then that's a different story. The 2 years we camped we took the car both times partially because of the amount of stuff we take, but also as it gave us some extra flexibility for the weekend, and we drove around a bit every day we were there before the festival started, plus had a nice day in sandown before getting the ferry home. Admittedly the 2 years i'm referring to we had prebooked through red funnel and they used to do some good deals for taking the car over- e.g only cost about an extra tenner whereas now the costs are silly. Andrew_iow
I would say taking the car would be the best bet if you have a lot of gear (like manda said) but if you are traveling light, save the pennys and foot passenger it. But also to tell the truth you are leaving it very very late to book a ferry!! The public transport to and from the ferrys is brilliant, well I have never heard anything bad about it!! and its "cheap", well compared to the prices we have to pay on the island day to day!!! £2 the other day to go about a mile!!!!
