Meeting friends en route to Portsmouth

Hiya,

we're driving from Brighton to Portsmouth and have some friends that are driving from London to Portsmouth. We need to meet up just before getting to Portsmouth but I can't think of anywhere suitable to meet. I used to drive down to the IoW from London every week, so know the route pretty well, but I can't remember anywhere that would do.

Is there a petrol station or anywhere we could pull over and wait for our friends? Any suggestions gratefully received!
