Managed 1.45.24 in the Hastings Half yesterday - which on a very hilly course I am more than happy with. Got beaten by a ghostbuster though :P:P

Wow that's amazing good work!

I did 19 miles yesterday in 3:10:54. My runkeeper said it was only 18.53 miles but mapmyrun said it was 19.3?! So I have gone with the average of 19!

Nice one! That's about 10 min mile pace?

Sterling work

Yeah, I'm still concerned that doing it at that pace I wont be able to run faster come marathon day? Seem to have a mental block about the theory behind it!

Am doing the same run next weekend so I thought maybe I might speed up a bit if I can in the second half, what do you reckon?

Rufus and fairy,

I find it helps to ignore whatever your end goal is - as that can seem so far away it's demoralising. I try and break my goals down into smaller chunks, so you get the sense of achievement regular and often and keeps you motivated. So for me, setting my week's schedule - then come sunday and i haven't missed any sessions, I've achieved something. Rather than looking at a 10 week schedule that seems so far away. Or, although my end target is to run 26.2 miles in under 4hrs, break that down to run 15 miles by the end of feb, run 20 miles by the end of march etc.

Let us know how you get on :P

Thanks for the advice.

I have no major goals at the moment. I stop exercising when I feel my left knee weaken, and it is going to take some more time to build up the strength in that area.

Of any goals I would like to meet the standrards I did in that army. It is why I am taking a military type of training programme, with carrying weight and resistance, rather than straight running. Got a long way to go though, but not that concerned :P

Ha I do know what you mean. Advice can be given - you need not heed it if you don't wish to!

If I were you and wanted to do part of the long run quicker, then I would definitely choose the 2nd half rather than the first half. Though being picky (!) I wouldn't aim to do a whole half (if that makes sense?!). I.e. just speed up for the last 5 miles not the last 9 1/2. Doing this is what's known as "progression runs". They help you get used to maintaining your anticipated marathon pace when you're tired. Again, the reason why I wouldn't do as much as a "whole half" quicker, is that it could really knacker you and therefore compromise what you get out of your subsequent mid week sessions a couple or few days later.

Are you doing any weights work to strengthen the knee?

Sounds like hard work! I couldn't do it - fair play!

No I do agree, my brain is just stubborn!

Yeah I had kind of worked out that the last 5-6 miles of the route I would do at marathon pace or at least faster than the first section because that is just after a long horrible hill so I will prob have a long walking break on that.

I'm up to 16 miles in training, the longest I've ever run. Did it in 2 hours 33 which was quite encouraging although the last couple of miles were a bit of a struggle. Got 18 and 20 miles to do over the next 4 weeks.

Good skills. I did 12 miles on Saturday, and am hoping to do 15 this weekend. You seem to be running at almost exactly the same pace as me, but the question is whether I can keep going at that pace on the longer distances. Glad we've got the extra 4 weeks over the London runners, I must admit.

Yeah I agree, with the weather having been so bad over January and February, I don't think I would have done well if I'd started training a month earlier. It would have been it an awful lot tougher than it already is.

Still hoping for 4:15 on race day - what are you hoping for again?

I'm hoping for sub 4:30, but would settle for finishing alive to be honest. The training's starting to take over my life a wee bit now as well.

Good luck y'all. How will I reconise the London runners amongst the crowds on TV??? :P

More seriously, when does the website open for 2011 London entries? Presume it'll be open and closed within 24 hours?

Website is open for entries on Tues May 4th 2010. Will no doubt be closed again within 48 hrs when they have received 125,000 entries.

Oh, and they have announced this year that they are going to phase out the guaranteed place for people who get rejected 5 years in a row.

P.S. I'll be wearing a green Macmillan Cancer Support vest!

I know i have made an entire thread for this but its not going so well at the moment so i reckon i might get a more welcomed response in a running thread...

I am running in the Robin Hood Marathon and i am doing so for Wateraid. I am sure you will all agree that it is a great cause so i urge you all to sponsor me on my website at www.justgiving.com/scottmartinmarathon. Before i started building up a training base about a month ago, i had only ever run around 2.5 miles so i really good use your support! Thanks.

To all those that are running in London next weekend i salute you!

Did 18 miles yesterday in 2 hours 51. Very pleased but I'm hurting today, but thankfully it's a rest day.

I think I might get close to 4 hours 15 on race day, weather dependent.

Are all the London runners all set for next weekend?

Good stuff Kowalski :P

I've gone and got a poxy injury. Feck feck feck.
