Next years headliners.

Wouldn't mind as I still think Final Straw's a great album, but not sure if the ignorant c**ts who don't like anything softer than Gallows at Reading and Leeds will take kindly to them. Not saying they'll get bottled as they're not a shit pop act or a reviled emo band but I think the crowd will just be apathetic. Shame really, they have some anthems in them.

Exactly.

If someone predicted RATM, Metallica and Killers in september 2007 for r/l, they would have been laughed at.

If someone predicted Jay-Z, Kings of Leon, Verve, in september 2007 for glasto, they would have been laughed at.

And i doubt Muse were THAT likely in september 2007 for V fest.

So dont listen to any realistic predictions as if that will definitely come true. It could be anyone and until January 2009, we wont have a very good idea of who is playing.

I think we got solid rumours of Metallica and RATM in November 2007, and The Killers were there too albeit less certain.

I think we'll know the headliners by November, as well as have a reasonable idea of who's touring and whatnot. You'd think we'd have some rumours come through for Download by now, but perhaps the whole Donnington thing is delaying progress there.

Out of interest, would people take AC/DC if it meant the rest of the line-up was a bit below par? (ie, with the extra cost of ACDC, less could be spent on other bands, kind of like Download with Kiss)

I'm probably against it, but theres a part of me that might not be against it.

The Download organisers said on the Fan Forums that the whole "the line-up is bad because KISS cost too much" thing wasn't true at all, they cost no more than any other huge headliner they have had - the bands just weren't available for them this year to have any better of a line-up.

Think back to 2006 - they had both Metallica and Guns N Roses, surely those two would cost more than just KISS, but they also had Tool, Prodigy and before they pulled out had also booked Motley Crue - three bands who are at least on a par with this years headliners. It didn't stop them from having a stupidly strong bill lower down.

It would be the same for Reading next year - AC/DC would cost a lot but probably not more than both Metallica and RATM combined and if they wen't for a 'small' headliner again on the friday night it probably wouldn't have any impact on the line-up at all.

Which reunion bands do people think will play? We seem to be out of ideas for headliners, Blur's the most likely one and even then Damon's outruled it for the time being. We could see a few further down the line-up though. In my eyes Stone Temple Pilots and Happy Mondays are both pretty likely, they could both play 4th or 5th on the Main Stage. Maybe they'll get Ned's Atomic Dustbin to headline the FR Stage as MF seemed to like them in the early 90s.

I suppose if Ian Brown and Primal Scream play the same day, and Mani joins old Browny onstage to play a few Roses classics it would be a sort-of semi-reunion. Or a proper reunion in the sense that the Pumpkins we saw last year was a proper reunion.
