thomasowen
The thing is though, last year everyone seemed to predict RATM, Arctics and Green Day. But I'd say Arctics and Green Day are more likely for 2009 than they were for 2008.
irons
Don't quote me, but from someone apparently in the know (mate from Karrang), It's Kings of Leon, Greenday and AC/DC Don't shoot me if I'm wrong but from what I've heard it's quite solid. VCK
Its Kerrang and my natural instinct is to call you a liar. However that would be rude and whilst 90% of people who make statements like this tend to be attention seeking morans, once in a while there will be a genuine poster. I hope you fall into the second group as that is a great line up. Edited October 11, 2008 by VCK

thomasowen
Obviously the years you've been on here and the number of posts suggest your genuine, but I've known genuine posters who have relayed information they have gotten somewhere else and have been completely wrong, in fact last year 2 or 3 established members told me they had information that certain bands were going to play that didn't. Ussulay it is not their mistake but a misunderstanding or a mistake on the part of the 'friend'. TBH I dont know why a journo for Kerrang would have information like this, esspecialy so early on. irons
I doubt he's realy got hard information. It's just what he's hearing on the grapevine, possibly even who they're just trying to sign up. Last year he got 2 out of 3 (RATM and Metallica). Then again he was way off with the other one (Foo Fighters) I posted about Alkaline Trio weeks/months before they were announced. Also the Gallows, but they were a given anyway. We'll have to wait and see, but I'd be suprised if 1 or 2 weren't right. EDIT: Arctic Monkeys are a decent shout, but were they not there recently? 2006? (I don't do Reading/Leeds) Also I think V might tie them up. I can't see another UK band being big enough to do it, unless you want Oasis. Personaly I think that would be too much money to pay, Greenday, AC/DC and Oasis are all huge bands. The one I think is most iffy is AC/DC. They might just do their own shows instead. Thou I'm thinking T in the Park for their scottish leg. Edited October 11, 2008 by irons

irons
I would say there is a 50/50 chance the Monkeys will play V or Reading. Oasis is the only other British band that seems as likely but the lineup certainly wont be Oasis, Greenday, Acdc. Kaiser Chiefs or Kasabian are the British outsiders. ALLHALLOWS
God I hope we don't get Oasis because 99% of their fans are moronic idiots who will cause trouble at the festival. I happened to see footage of their gig at Sheffield Arena last night and I couldn't believe what a bunch of w...kers the crowd were. I admit 1 person in every 100 fans may be ok but they are the last band we need at Leeds. I think they will play V. Kings of Leon are very possible, AC/DC (possible because over the last few years the billboard ads at the side of the mainstage have had large adverts for the bands who play the following year..eg 2007 huge Tenacious D advert), Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs are all possible too. Kaiser Chiefs may play second from top again as I can't see them worrying too much about having to play the same spot as last time as long as they play. eFestivals
Ac/dc did have posters everywhere at Leeds but I wouldn't read too much into that as I doubt that any headliners is booked over a year in advance. i'd say that this might well be an exception to that .... they formally announced the new album before this year's fest, and everyone knew it was coming and that they'd be touring it. It would be a very slack booker that wanted them and hadn't started to make moves to try to secure them long before it go to the public announcements stage. metallimuse
In the AC/DC thread in the 'Discussions' forum a poster wrote that AC/DC have said themselves that they aren't interested in playing rock festivals and will play metal festivals if they decide to go down that route... ...i still believe though! Please god! Gunna try get me tickets for the 02 gig anyways.
yazzas
Na i don't think reading will be going that indie. Headliners wise it'll probaly be Friday Linkin Park Saturday Arctic Monkeys Sunday Greenday I was going to say AC/DC instead of Linkin park but LP headlined download in 2007 and haven't been at reading since 2003 so it's more likely that the'll be at reading next year. Greenday are pretty much a defo and arctic monkeys is quite likely but i may be wrong.
thomasowen
The Hives wont headliner NME unfortunatley, and the Streets are not that likely to either.
thomasowen
They have both diminished in status enough - look at Ash, Supergrass, The Manics for example of this. And The Streets have played three times before, and have just released a new album too.
moss265
I have no doubt Ian Brown would get a massive crowd. Have I been under a rock for the last few months - are Glasvegas really getting that popular? Maybe so.... Arctic Monkeys The Strokes Green Day Lostprophets/The Offspring AC/DC The Prodigy With Weezer, The Hives and Paramore all to feature somewhere NME headliners: Ian Brown, The Streets and The Ting Tings
Calm Like A Bomb
Being as Depeche Mode are touring again next year, with a couple of festivals already lined up - Can I see them at Reading 09 please I've been asking politely for about four years now. thomasowen
http://www.nme.com/news/Trick+Trick/41010 Surely we dont want a caveman like Eminem headlining Reading and Leeds? I also agree with what someone said above about Kings of Leon seeming likely to do Isle of White now they have booked dates in June at the 02.
