thomasowen
I'm surprised there hasn't been more mention of G&R. Probably rightfuly so after all the hassle their previous headlining aperances in this country have caused.
irons
Still hearing Kings Of Leon. The main man of IOW festival said they weren't playing IOW, they're heading to Reading and Leeds instead, according to one poster. He said it to dismiss rumours about his own IOW headliners. Funny with them booking dates in London around IOW time thou, I thought they would be heading there instead. Unless he's only saying it to put people off the scent. I went along to their last performance with much love for their debut, and put it this way, i haven't listened to them since. I missed half of Coheed for that shit too

gazza_20
nah personally i think prophets have one 2nd slot, manson with the other and the other i reckon could be kaisers, like the monkeys haven't played since 06, prodigy cudn't take below a 2nd place on main and dont think they could do nme haeadline cud that'd put them either 3rd or 4th nme. just thinking with dizzee and the slot he played last year wud surely put him in nme headliner on friday and very much alternate to arctics? thomasowen
I dont know why but last year Queens of the stone age and Slipknot always seemed certain to play second, from the beggining I never doubted it and they were on many other peoples predictions too. This year I have not seen one band (other thsan maybe Lost prophets) who have been consistently showing up second on peoples predictions. benisright
I second this. Now that Kasabian have dropped themselves out of the running - so we think - it becomes tougher. Did anyone guess that Arcade Fire would be below RHCP 2007? I seem to recall people slotting them in around 4th or 5th from top. Ditto Bloc Party jumping one slot this year, that was out of the blue somewhat. Kings of Leon in 07 caught people off guard, and up untill 24 hours before the line-up was released people were certain Slipknot would be below Metallica. My prediction is that this year we'll see a mix of 2nd-from-top slots. The possibilities go like this: you have former headliners looking for a return to R/L (The Strokes, Prodigy, Stereophonics) underneath more flavor of the moment headliners; bands who, like QOTSA this year, have slogged their way through a few albums to earn the slot (Lostprophets, Marilyn Manson, Flaming Lips); big name comebacks (No Doubt, Faith No More) or bands who might provide a special moment, or ones on a rapid ascent, despite not being quite big enough (Sigur Ros, Klaxons). ste4_20
On The Strokes last email, it said to 'wait for 'proper' news real soon'. Think they'll be returning to the scene next year.
