kaosmark2
I think you're living in a cure fantasy land tbh. They are probably bigger than Pixies (though they had the added bonus of having a 'comeback') but certainly no bigger than Pearl Jam or the darkness (for the 5 minutes they were popular). Looking at previous years headliners, they have almost always had top 5 albums released the year they headline or have been making a big comeback. The cure have had neither, and as I said their album didn't even scrape the top 30 (primal scream and manic street preachers did and they headlined NME.) And If you don't think Morrissey could headline or even play top 2 (and he is far far bigger than the cure) what makes you think they could? thomasowen
The Cure have sold several multi-platinum albums. They're certainly bigger than the Pixies and the Darkness. Ok, Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins have outsold them and are bigger, but they The Cure are headlining NME's thing over Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand can headline Reading+Leeds. Therefore? ste4_20
Franz ferdinand's new single got to number 2 in the charts, The Cure's got to number 33. The only reason Franz are playing below the cure is because the Cure are god like genius's (or whatever it's called) at the awards show. Also Franz Ferdinand's popularity has dipped since 2006. What? Are you serious? As a band The Smiths have been considerably more influential and popular than the cure and Morrissey is a huge solo artst. Wait till his new album comes out and see how well it does. Role Model
Eh how about Blink 182? Lots of shit about them reforming is going about: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1604362/2...blink_182.jhtml
fat_man_joe
I bloody well hope not. Besides, I don't think they're big enough.
dan666
They are big enough as it will be a reunion. Don't care for Blink anyways.

thomasowen
Precisely. Debatable. And we're not talking about how big The Smiths are/were. We're talking about Morrissey.
kaosmark2
Firstly, I have nothing against the cure. I am a fan in so far as I have their greatest hits and an early album. Secondly Morissey NOW is bigger than the Cure are now in terms of sales and popularity.
thomasowen
Didn't think you did, it's just a discussion/argument about perceived size and status. Meh to the early albums, unless it's Pornography. Get that and Disintegration. They're fantastic.
irons
I don't agree with thomasowen all the time, specialy about headliners. But he's right here, the Smiths and even Morrissey are far, far bigger than The Cure ever were. And I'm a Cure fan.
kaosmark2
Pornography is the one I've got. I just don't want anyone to think I'm slagging the band of, because I'm not. I think you are blinded as you're clearly a big fan of the band. They are by no means a house hold name (unless you're talking about them being a household name amongst Reading festival goers, in which case they probably are) they are more of a cult band than a popular band. Morrissey has a huge fanbase as proved by the fact most of his recent singles have reached top 10, number one albums and the press coverage he recieves
moz4pm
Well I'm saying they're a household name based on people that aren't particularly into music knowing of and liking The Cure. The same people who haven't heard any of Morrissey's solo stuff. The Cure can headline festivals. Morrissey can't.

ste4_20
I very much doubt someone who isn't particularly into music would have heard of the Cure, esppecialy in the last decade with them only having released two unsuccesful albums. Of course they may recognise a couple of songs because they are used in adverts but I doubt they would be able to name the band.
thomasowen
I'm sure the same can be said of most of the headliners from recent years. Play RATM, Pearl Jam or Smashing Pumpkins, Iron Maiden to those people and you'd get a similar reaction. Except that maybe they'd recognise more Cure songs. People who don't listen to much music aren't the demographic that R/L aims for. Look at the size of crowd Morrissey got at V a few years back. He's not headliner sized, or anywhere near. *I'm not saying The Cure are necessarily big enough to headline, just that it's a bit of a bad argument.
