I still say that the best they ever made was The Crow. Mainly because he's an anti-hero, which suited what was going on in the alternative of the early 90s.

But if the fashion persists in using comic book instead of inventing new film characters and plots, then why are we getting such trite americana, which is nothing more than a modernistic portrayal of greek drama with an obvious humanistic twist. Where's Placebo Man? Where's The Sandman? These are far more contemporary and relevant. But, of course, they resist such ancient concepts of good and bad and of narrative congruence. And they don't come in an iconic f**king suit and badge, so the Disneyland of American capitalism can't make much out of them.

And the outdated mid 20th century utopian metropolis they use as a generic backdrop to the human condition makes me cringe. The metropolis of German cinema some 20 years earlier was far more accurate. Can they not modernise this to incorporate some political unrest and social disparity, at the very least. It doesn't have to be profound or engaged in the plot, a superficial backdrop would do.

I think V For Vendetta is possibly the best "superhero" story of all time. It really went into the grey area that often lies between hero and villain and what all of that really means, if it means anything at all, with a meaningful ending.

I watched the Crow the other day. It hasn't aged well, sadly. I recall watching it at the cinema when it came out and being knocked out by how it looked, and how it sounded, but there are quite a few bits in there now that seem incredibly cringeworthy.

I quite liked Constatine, even though it has Keanu Canoe Kenau Reeves in it.

I loved The Crow and remember back in the day Rob Zombie was attached to The Crow 3 and wrote a script and was set to direct but studio bosses thought it was too dark and not appealing to a mass market so his involvement and script were dropped.Such a shame.

So anyone seen Kill List yet? From what I've heard its marmite laced with steroids.

On one hand Ive heard it described as the best brit horror film since The Wicker Man and elsewhere its been compared (infavourably) to A Serbian Film.

Either way worthy of debate.

Watched Donnie Darko and Sexy Beast tonight, both absolute clasics in completely different ways.

I really want to see kill list but there isnt a cinema within 100 miles showing it. and the movie industry bleats about piracy.....

oh, and

we went to see inbetweeners last weekend. enjoyed it, there were some genuine laugh out loud moments but it peters out toward the end and anticlimaxes quite spectacularly. worth seeing though.

Scream 4.

Stupid, utterly shit, derivative, smarmy movie, but the ones with the boobies, whatever their names were, are generally wonderful. Neve Campbells boobies are still very nice. The blonde girl from Heroes's's's has very short hair for the duration, allowing for maximum ogglage and sometimes fantasising about doing a bit of rape.

My rating: 4/5 - knocked a mark off because of one instance of miscasting - namely due to the stupid slut whore who dies midway through stereotype having a rather lacklustre rack.

Watched Red State last night. Reminds me of a 70's thriller like Dirty Harry or Foxy Brown but about bible bashers with guns and it's interesting that they tried to humanize both the cops and the cult but you don't really spend enough time with the characters for it to work but still good enough. I also kept staring at John Goodman's face as he's getting old he's started getting loose skin but he's still fat so it kinda looks like his face is melting now.
