I had the misfortune of watching Thor last night. I was greatly disturbed over the fact that I had paid to watch it but more disturbed that some poor suspecting people had said to get in the cinema. All the way through I was expecting someone to shove their arm in the air and shout "By the power of Greyskull".

Arthur Christmas sounds great - Peter Baynham is responsible (Brass Eye, Alan Partridge etc) and it's all about the corporate corruption of Christmas, and Aardman (Wallace and Gromit) are in charge of animation.

Sounds like a quality Christmas film.

Watched Loach's 'Land and Freedom' a couple of nights ago for the first time - a great film, just goes to show what a messed up world we're in and how the left side political spectrum is so wide sometimes those doing the right thing can't - when socialists get stuffed by communists.

over the weekend we watched warrior http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1291584/ which is the single most overrated movie on the imdb as far as I'm concerned. It has 8.3/10 ffs. all I can assume is that just about everyone who rated it on there is a massive mma/ufc fan, with little or no sense about what makes a movie "awesome". Nick Nolte is quite good, but not even a consideration for an oscar, as many of the fanbois appear to believe. It is a cheesefest of the highest order, with the most implausible plot since I dont know what. and to cap it off, apparently the official movie trailer basically gives away the entire plot of the movie all but the very last scene.

we also watched Contagion, which I really enjoyed, and mrs t8y said "well that was shite" as the credits rolled. :scratchhead:

I think if you hadnt seen rocky, or the karate kid, or any of the those kind of movies, it might be mildly entertaining, but the story is so implausible.

in a nutshell, (there are fewer spoilers in this paragraph than in the trailer)

a 40+ year old physics teacher who was a fighter in his youth, manages to bag an entry into a huge tournament with countless millions of dollars of prize money. there are 16 entrants, and he manages to bag one of the places, fighting against some of the most incredibly scary fighters on the planet.

I wont spoil the ending for you, but you already know the ending.
