Buying alcohol at Glatonbury

Yeah, there is that risk, but it'd be worth asking around here on these forums to find from people who've actually gone there, to what extent the 'local supermarkets selling out on booze' thing is true.

I think most people driving to Glastonbury, if they haven't already stocked up further afield, will use the mega Sainsburys in Street rather than Morrisons in Glastonbury?

I think it's funny how some people expect to have everything laid on a plate. You can get pretty much anything you need (or want?) at Glastonbury. You can get empty bottles filled at the wine bars for a reasonable cost, the beer isn't too expensive, yet 'we' still want to be able to buy crates of lager. Does anywhere else do this? I s'pose what some want is a mini Tescos on site....:)

Most admit that if i'm lucky to get a ticket for Glastonbury i'm not looking forward to lugging round cans of beer at the site. Flew into Bristol last year and will be doing the same next year. Managed to get a 24 pack of Fosters in a Tesco in Bristol, pain in the arse having to carry it though.

And as for Fosters ..... only drunk by people who favour cheapness and shiteness  above any other factor ....

You can get a slab of Tanglefoot (Hall and Woodhouse Badger Brrewery, 5% and tasty) at most supermarkets for not significantly more in cost than the utter dross fraudulently described as 'lager'** that sells at the very lowest prices. Tanglefoot is well worth marginally ca. £1:10 or £1:20 a can IMO.

**Real description : chemical laden, factory produced piss!

I agree that bar costs at Glastonbury have become ever more pricey. This year, we mixed bringing plenty of our own with real ale bar and Cidr Bus visits (plus one or two backstage sessions cos we were crew, that was marginally cheaper but the best ales/ciders ran out quickly). We were on our main (working) holiday of the year, both in employment, and both had cash, but the costs of pints are definitely noticeably more now than a few years ago.

Next year we will probably have less cash and will need to increase our private supplies.

Being a non-beer drinking female, I take a couple of boxes of wine - they're light (compared to tins), compact and contain enough alcohol to keep you going all weekend. The trouble with spirits is you have to take twice as much in mixers. And when I want cider for a change, I buy it on site.

Erm ... alongside Woodesfordes Wherry at nearly all the bars, and MANY more real ales (a huge range of types and strengths) at the Real Ale tent (Acoustic Stage field), and as well as Brothers Festival Strength Pear Cider at the Brothers Bar (JazzWorld field) you could also get various kinds of Burrowhills Scrumpy at the Cider Bus.
