I know next to nothing about modern tellys but I guess I want a new one that can find my wifi and do iPlayer and such like. Any recommendations?

Nah just go for the best picture quality you can afford over anything else.

If you want internet etc. you can pick up a chromecast for 25 quid to give you all that!

Finally got round to watching The Muppets! Decent enough for the first episode I thought, needs a few more jokes at the top end of its game though.

Also watched that new The Kennedys which i wasn't expecting much from tbh (well apart from the actors it got) but yeah that was quite good!

Samsung or Sony for me. All the other TV user interfaces annoy me, especially when scrolling through Freeview channels & it cuts off from what you are currently watching. Less of an issue if you only watch through Sky, Virgin etc boxes. Toshiba is terrible. Make sure it has a USB port (I think all do these days) to plug in an external hard drive for illegally downloaded movies & if you like sport go for anything over 100Hz.

Watched This is England in a single session (decided against doing the full 9 hour catchup first).  Great stuff.  I'm about the age of the youngest character and some of the parallels of stories from growing up over the course of the whole piece really struck home, but never more so than the spring and summer sections of '90 which was just like looking back into being 19 again for me, right down to being that group driving lost looking for a rave and homing in on foot by the sound in the distance through the woods.

The This Is England finale was incredible stuff. I never really liked 86 or 88 all that much but the way they've drawn all the threads back together over this series has been so well handled.

Totally this.  Ended perfectly.

wasn't a huge fan of 88 myself, but need to go back and rewatch the lot. remember 88 being awfully bleak though and there not being much comedy to lighten things up

thought Kelly's story in this seemed to get wrapped up a little too easy - seemed her downfall was the main focus/drama point of the past episodes, and in the end it was just 'i've quit now it's cool'. Combo's story though was incredible and heartbreaking

I thought 86 was great. All the series have been similar in as much they've started quite slow and light and built up to a great finale.

The whole lol and her dad scene was brilliantly done in '86.

See, I thought 86 was epitomised by this weird tension between wanting to tell a distinct story with serious subject matter and the desire to simply spend time with the characters from the film. And it was a tension that you could see on a narrative level, but also in loads of little weird things that bugged me and took me out of the drama. Like the fact that Combo's racist thug mate Banjo was inexplicably hanging round and making cupcakes with the gang. The storyline with Lol's dad was superbly handled though, and 88 was an honest attempt to deal with the fallout from that, but it was just utterly miserable and uncomfortable to watch. I also thought they were both an episode too long.

90 was stunning though. I even liked the way that it started out almost plotless and lighthearted in Spring and got darker and more complex with each episode.

I found most of the series pretty uncomfortable viewing but couldn't help myself but Combos end doesn't sit well with me,who were the white thugs Milky's family/friends handed him over to,Combo really freaked out when he saw them?

I can only presume it was NF that Combo had fallen out with but If we had known something about this and something about the level of revenge they seeked it would of been better,

Maybe we'll find out in the next instalment,if there is one.

Just started watching The Walking Dead seeing as there's 5 series on Virgin On Demand.

Midway through series 2 and while not must see TV like other things I've watched recently,it's really good.

Must admit though the scene where THAT person walks out of the barn had me like "Awwwwwww,no!" Totally didn't see that coming.

special forces ultimate hell week was brilliant, and the winner was absolutely deserving. inspiring stuff.

the spetznaz guy was scary as fuck, but the SAS interrogation tactics were very close to the bone, borderline too far for mainstream telly imho.

yeah i was pretty confused as to who exactly they were as well - were we supposed to know? because it sure seemed that way. i'd just assumed that Milky's friends would be taking care of Combo themselves (understandably) rather than a second party

I'm glad I'm not the only one in the dark,I've been trying to rack my brain, thinking I missed something in the previous series.I guess Meadows has left it to our own imagination.

Decided to watch the new south park episodes since I aint watched it in some time.

not been overly impressed with the three new ones. they're okay, but just seem to be lacking in big laughs in favour of poking fun at current events (some of which, like the Caitlyn Jenner thing, just seem a little dated - one of the main problems with there only being ten episodes at the end of the year now instead of fourteen episodes a year, split in to two batches of seven six months apart)

They wasn't too bad but I've also seen worse from south park, they ain't been as funny as the recent ones tho but the principle gave me a few laughs. And yeah I agree lots are dated tbh

Please, please tell me is this is a self-aware caustic meta-comment.

You know, of the "Simon Cowell is the best thing to happen to TV since Jeremy Beadle" type satire.

Narco's is on my list.

Can't believe it's been two years since the first series of Moaning of Life but since rewatching, I'm now unsure if Karl is actually real or not.

I want to watch the Bad Education Movie even though I know it won't be very good.

After the 2nd episode of You, Me and the end of the world things are starting to take shape.  I'm really looking forward to next week's episode now it has become clear what the story is really about.

have got this on series record but was unsure if it was gonna be any good - looks like it could've gone either way. will have to check it out
