I just posted this in the V forum but Arctic Monkeys are playing a festival in Germany V weekend - called Highfields

So Id say its pretty much nailed on they'll be at V or Reading/Leeds, Highfields is a three day festival so if they play that the Friday, theres a chance they could play V, but Id say they'll be at Reading and Leeds after reading this

So yeah that looks like one of the headline for 2009

how have they gone from good to shite in one album (as obviously, u need the debut out to form an opinion), or it is due to the fact that they can sell out any venue in this country and are now uncool. I prefer aspects of the second album, the first has classic anthems but the second shows they're not a one trick pony. Still annoying seeing them outdoors though as their sound works best indoors, but c'est la vie.

I've seen Arctic Monkeys 3 times, once they were great the other 2 times average. The problem I have with them headlining is that they're still IMO a flash in the pan NME band. Yes they're very popular but they've got 2 albums FFS...let's have a guess what their set list will be shall we?...oh yeah, both albums! IMO a festival headliner should be someone with a solid back catalogue and/or someone who you'd rarely get a chance to see live, AM have toured the shit out of both their albums with their own tours & on various NME & Gonzo tours, same applied to The Killers last year.

The criticisms aimed at KOL (as far as I can see) aren't that 'Oh they're popular now so it's uncool to like them'. There are plenty of bands that are popular so why doesn't this logic apply to the likes of Foo Fighters, REM etc. The problem is that they've seemingly changed their sound to appeal as broadly as possible, chasing the almighty dollar & alienating fans of their earlier work.
