Going to Glasto early?

For the past 2 years,since we got the car, we've made a week's holiday out of it. We arrive on the wednesday evening,set up tent and sort out gear, then go off on a wander. We're night owls so we'll not get to sleep till after 3am. We do the same on the thursday,its a good time to have a wander round and get yourself orientated,without the distractions,for want of a better word lol, of the bands. Then the fun starts on friday yahooooo!!

Possible Campsites for Pre-Glasto Camping

Vale of Avalon

Heard mixed reports on this one (quick google search brings up interesting reviews!). This one accepts group bookings yet they don't actually have a website and I only know about it by word of mouth.

Downside is that it is further out to the west of Glastonbury Town and quite a bit of a hike into town and would involve a long walk to the pub and back on the Tuesday night.

The Old Oaks

This is a campsite a few of us stayed at last year on the Tuesday night and would recommend it as the facilities were nice and clean, well layed out site and friendly staff. It does state on their website however

The Old Oaks is an adult only park catering for singles, couples and families (18+) with group or block bookings accepted solely at the discretion of the owners. Whilst we may accept a block booking we do not book shared pitches (ie: 2 units on one pitch or 2 couples sharing one tent).

Based on its closeness to where we need to be i'd be happy with old oaks, strudders is staying close to riflemans so it will save hassle on the wednesday morning too

Count me in for OO too. Staggertastic! And as we are staying TWO nights maybe this year we attempt the sunrise Tor jaunt on the Tuesday morning. Was too much effort to do it on the Wed morn last year especially after the previous night's shenanigans!

Sorting out an agenda which will probably go something like this -

Saturday

Arrive at our campsite during the day, set up tents and grab some food/drink before heading into Avebury for the Summer Solstice

Sunday

Back to the campsite to chill out although I am looking into possibly hiring a Self Drive Narrowboat for the day to do a canal trip (cost to be confirmed). Only thing is this one is 8 person Max, still looking at other possibilities if anyone is interested. Then back to the pub for a few drinks at night.

Monday

Pack up and head 30 miles West towards Cheddar Gorge for a visit to the Caves. Also to seek out a Cider Farm or two before heading to Glasto to Old Oakes to set up.

Tuesday

Early morning Glastonbury Tor climb and then spend the day going to Glastonbury Abbey before heading up to The Riflemans for the Pre-Glasto meet.

Wednesday

Early rise to get to Glastonbury

Yeah after reading all the reviews, and the lack of a website does make me prefer the old oaks, especially as we have been there before. Even if we cannot block book it and end up all over the site, thats no biggie as its not that big a site.

I'm not sure I still have your number through changing phones so we'll have to exchange numbers at some point before the sat.

Lucy there was no point going up the Tor on the wed morning as we had already done it Tuesday night!

On the saturday yeah. Im giving chocky a lift too then I believe as he asked earlier in this thread, so 3 of us would be fine, my boot isnt the biggest so some stuff on the back seat Im sure.

Yeah. I'll know by sunday so I'll be able to confirm about solstice. I'll see in that case if hombrederayo wants to split cost as we'd be travellin jointly in that case

Depends how long you are staying?

Tariff is £18 per night for 2 people, so maybe best hang off to get someone to go 1/2 with you

I'll be booking for 2 nights for 3 or 4 (not sure yet)
