Open'er 2009

Ey up

My friend has suggested that we go to Open'er in Poland this year. Has anyone been who can let me know what it's like?

I especially want to know how quickly the campsites fill up as we're all in Glastonbury the weekend before and would be flying out on the wednesday/thursday. Will it all be cramped by then?

Any other general insights are welcome

I was at Open Er last year it was amazing, 28 degrees Celsius, within walking distance of the beach. a really friendly atmosphere and £3.80 will get you a pint of beer a sausage and a gerkin for tea... yum!

Last year the whole place was full ow women as all their men work in England or Germany and the bands were pretty good too.

We got there on Thursday and there was tonnes of camping space. A trip to Sopot is definitely worth it while you are out there (home of Europe's longest wooden pier), jump on the free bus to Gdinya and then the train, no one checked out tickets on either.

The festival itself is on a disused military airbase and is massive, easily twice as big as the Reading festival but with a license for only 50,000 people it's far less cramped. Last year's festival was sponsored by Heineken and as a result the only booze you could bring onto the site was Heineken, when you buy it from the local shop it was about 50p a can. We smuggled loads of vodka in as they don't tend to check too hard (£4 a ltr). On the way back from the beach be sure to call at the little kiosks in the hosing estate and get some lovely long spicy sausage.

Hmm happy days. This year I think I'm going to try Pohoda in Slovakia!

Not really happy about the fact that almost all the big names are going to perform on Sunday. Since it's 4 days this year, I think it would have been more clever to really kick ass on Friday and Saturday, and leave Sunday for some chilled hangoverish post-apocalyptic atmosphere with one really big name to end the festival. Now it seems it will take a lot of energy to survive Sunday and people might be pretty tired after 3 days and nights of music, beach and establishing international connections. Another thing - not sure about this, but isn't there going to be a situation that many people come only to the last day of the festival (to see certain bands, but not for the festival itself)?

Also would be great to hear some rumours about other bands that might headline this year, not really a fan of anyone who's playing on Friday and Saturday (except for 'Crystal Castles' maybe) - I understand that main things of Friday are going to be 'The Kooks' and Moby, but hope they bring something that fits my questionable musical taste more for Saturday.

Anyway, I think it will be awesome festival after all, see you in Poland!

P.S. Anyone who can give me some practical tips how to get few bottles of liquor inside festival territory (no contraband, just few alcoholic friends) will be welcome to meet famous Baltic hospitaly and have pair of vodka shots inside our tent.

Can anyone tell me what nights this festival is on.

I assumed the bands were Thu-Sunday but the website says the campsite only opens on the Friday at noon.

Needing to decide what days to book my flights for.

Also do buses run to the train station all night?

My flight back will be from Poiznan at 2pm on the Monday so dunno what the chances are of getting there by that time. There is a train at 5am which i could get

Cheers
