Joshuwarr
Well, since we arrived last year at about 6AM Thursday we had no trouble in just walking straight through instantly with no problems. Would just like to know how long you're looking to wait at the gates on Wednesday. I'm guessing the busiest times will be during when the gates open (8AM) up til about midday. So basically: - What times would be good to arrive at so we're not waiting in the queue for too long? - What time will Kidney Mead be full by? Or if you're really nice some sort of order of which campsites fill up fastest Thank you very much efesters!
Josie's Cat
I would also like to know this! I am planning on getting to the gates first thing Wed, and getting a Family camping spot. Do you reckon people will be camping outside the gates Tuesday night to be first in the queue, January sales style?
Joshuwarr
The idea of camping at the front of the gate is quite a fun idea haha. I don't mind waiting as long as I'm at the front, theres something really disheartening about being at the back of a really long queue. Although I'm sure its nice to talk to everyone :-)
r0cky
The carparks are not officially opened until 8AM, and you will be turned away until they open. Last year I was parking on the east-side, and people were parking all over the place on the nearby roads waiting to be let in. I think they eventually opened the carpark slightly early, as the surrounding roads got jammed. But for some reason it took me ages to get into the car park once they did open. There seemed to be some hold-up on the eastside, and the traffic queue was stationary at the ticket/car-park check-point for ages. I queued for many hours at PGB, and didn't get through the gate until after midday. That's the worst I've ever seen. Other years, I've arrived at 9AM or so on the Wednesday and driven straight into the carpark and gone straight through the gate (usually PGC). Joshuwarr
Thanks for the info! I think we may leave at about 5AM (4 hour) journey so we won't exatly be arriving late and should (fingers crossed) be able to drive through in a short amount of time

r0cky
We arrived in the general area at 07:30 and was in and setting up by 10. However I will be coming from Glastonbury this year so I am not sure what time I will leave after my Breakfast However it was mad later on last year and the guys (NikoT) did have to queue for what seemed hours and hours to get in. So I guess the moral is, turn up as early as you can, not to be moved on, but what time that will be this year is anybodies guess!
strudders
I too was in the general area last year just after 0700, and parked up on the side of the road not far from the east-side entrance road where the traffic&gates stewards were turning people away. Were you on the east or west side?
r0cky
Well here's the thing I was coming in from the east and heading for blue and ended up in yellow. In fact I just joined a queue and just drifted in waved on by enthusiastic traffic people. However this then led to a refugee stylie march across the site to get to pannards. LusciousLucy
The Pre meet crew last year (most of whom were camping at ) all piled down to the west side of the site en masse to be there for gates open at White Entrance. There was a door delay which held us up for about half an hour but once that ended we were in very swiftly...the easiest entrance ever tbh. AND we all got to park super close to the White gate which was excellent for getting stuff onto site. The busy period really got going in the afternoon. Arriving for gates open is always a bonus as any other entrance you have to do later tends to be quikcer because you only have to go thru the luggage gates not the ticket exchange gates again. BUT with 175,000 people, everyone's experience is different so until the day comes, we just dont know what will happen. Just arrive early, but there's no need to camp at the gates! Come to the pre meet the night before instead!
Josie's Cat
Hmmm - where does the pre meet take place? I was thinking of leaving early on Wed morning anyway so maybe a Tuesday night would work.

Brizzle
gettin in is fine at that time...but the queues gettin to the bath & west showground were awful! in the queue we just got out of the car and started walking, after about half a mile we were next to one of the coaches going to the showground so he let us on! r0cky
We arrived into Kidney mead about about 11am weds and there was plenty of room. There was still some roon for small tents by midday on thurs but by thurs eve it was packed. We came in through PGB (had no choice in that) and queued for about 1 and half hours. I heard of people coming through PGC at same time and going straight in. Edited January 19, 2009 by r0cky
LilMissSmiley
We stayed over in Glastonbury town and got one of the first coaches to the site Wednesday morning, about 8/9am there was quite a queue at the gates but it probably took half an hour max to get in and i was sat in the sun by 10am with the tent up
featherboa
Hey, this is my third Glasto, but this year we are getting the coach down instead of driving. Our coach doesn't get us in until 2.40pm on the Wednesday, will there still be enough room to set up a good camp? As i have normally got there at 9am I have never had a problem before. Also how close is the coach drop off to the site. We normally camp in Penards (not sure if that's the correct spelling!) x x

Joshuwarr
This is weird because I distinctly remember Kidney Mead being pretty packed on Thursday morning. I'm talking about the spot down by the Leftfield stage. but we squeezed in the by the staff camping and blocked the bit the exit/entrance to their fence which annoyed a few :S

Sam.
Me and my mateys are staying at my Grandmas on the Tuesday night, she lives in Taunton, Somerset. How long roughly will it take for her to drive us from there to Glasto, and if we get there, is it a long walk from the entrance to the cap site? By this i mean, are we better queuing and getting driven in, or walking as soon as we hit traffic?
Josie's Cat
According to the RAC routeplanner, it will take you approximately 54 minutes to get from Taunton to Pilton, and your carbon footprint will be 9.93kg if you have a small car! Dunno about the other questions though, not been before.
