Where to camp?

depends how much shit you've got to carry.

in 07 we read all the threads on here about best places to camp etc and it all looked so easy on the map but once there depending on where you end up parking the car by the time you've carried all your shit from the car park queued up and got in you then have to find your bearings and realise you've got f**king miles to walk and mostly uphill through crowds and we just plonked ourselves down not far from the gate we came through as we were knackered from carrying everything, this also paid dividends when it came to leaving, i would have topped myself if i had to pack up and then lug all my crap miles back to the cars through all that mud.

we ended up somewhere none of the supposed veterans recommended and it was spot on, it really doesn't matter tbh if anything you want somewhere easy to get to and from, you soon make friends with your neighbours and all that and you always end up wandering around meeting new people and going to their tents or them coming to yours etc.

all that this campsite is best that campsite is shit nonsense is 9 times out of 10 elitist no it all bullshit, the simple fact of the matter is you are going to have a great time regardless of where you pitch your tent.

just stay clear of the paths and definitely DO NOT CAMP NEAR TOILETS!

depends how many of you are of the no tail variety, as this could lead to an invitation to camp sparticus

(someone had to make a crude gesture, and managed to get a league of gentlemen reference in, so ;) )

i haven't been, but basic festival rules apply. Stay clear of pathways, bins and bogs. And since it's glasto i wouldn't recommend the bottom of a hill.

Depends where you are coming from and where you want to camp. I have attached a map it's last years but gives you a good idea.

If you are coming from the South East you will be coming along the Blue route (M4) Anywhere else the red route (M5). So if you want to go to camp a perticular side of the site plan ahead.

Listen to the advise above a lot of good stuff there. And if you are camped near us sorry for keeping you up.

Why stay clear of paths? I've heard alot of people say it but never really got why. We've camped near paths and miles away from paths at Leeds and near the path is better. It's easier to find your tent and there's always lots of people walking past to talk to.

It is true to say that Glastonbury is so vast for a first timer that any ideas you have about camping in a certain space are likely to soon be abandoned. I've never camped anywhere I haven't liked. Although it is true to say that different parts of the site do have different vibes, its all good!

I'd definitely echo all the advice above though, don't camp near toilets, bins, or at the bottom of a hill. I prefer to be a little bit away from a path - in a muddy year just the noise of sloshing feet first thing in the morning can drive you to distraction! Having said that, as you pitch you can never really tell where will be a path. There are the official paths around the fields, but the way the tents set up will determine the routes people drunkenly weave to their own tent across the field!

For me at the grand old age of 44 I prefer the pennards side for easy access to more offbeat side of the site. At 17 though, I would say the Other Stage field may have it's attractions. It's a lively part of the site, but more central than the Pyramid which is a bit off to one side. In that area you'd be well placed for not only the Other stage, but also Dance Village, John Peel, The Glade & Jazz World as well as only a short hike from the Pyramid. It seems to have a feel of being at the centre of all the action, and as I pass through there always seems to be alot of young people, and always some kind of loud crazyness tumbling round the tents. This would possibly have been exactly what I was looking for at 17 - but what would I know now? In a bad year though it is low and flat and does get very very soggy, although not proper flooded, so a bit of a risk of extreme muddyness.

This will be my fifth year and I have always camped in Kidney Mead, just off the path that seperates it from Big Ground. I wouldn't mind trying out other campsites but I've always enjoyed that spot so I'll be returning there again this year. Think you came by my camp in 2007 IIRC but no-one was about? :)
