HELP! My Other Half doesn't want to camp

I have a massive quandry. I've got tickets for Glasto for me and my hubby. Trouble is he is no having serious doubts about going. He doesn't want to camp & he doesn't want to spend a fortune on hiring a campervan.

We live in Jersey.... (def not millionaires!) which adds to the expense of getting off this rock. Even clapped out campervans/motorhomes over here cost a fortune so just buying one here and selling it on afterwards is just not going to happen.

All the Campervan/Motorhome hire websites I've found are charging between £750 & £1000 which we just can't afford. Getting off this island on the boat with a car costs £500 alone. Flights would be better at £100 each.

We went in 2007 the year of the mud and he thinks its going to be like that again. The thing is, he absolutely loves Bruce Springsteen & I can't understand why he's not chomping at the bit to go. I'm not keen on any of the rumoured "headliners" and I can't wait to go.

Anyway, I'm looking for ideas.... anything...

Tell him that if little kids who can barely walk and talk can hack it then he surely can. Think of all the young kids, those with disabilities, OAPs and all kinds of people who go and have a fantastic time.

EDIT: Just casually be like "well, I think I'll go anyway so you can do what you want..."

Then as soon as he thinks about a week alone watching the highlights he will change his mind

OK heres my advice.

Get a big Vango 5 man tent.

Come over early and buy a double airbed from tesco or something

Bed

Buy a pair of these boots

They are the most comfortable footwear around and completely waterproof.

Get a decent UK army poncho

Make sure it is genuine British issue otherwise it will be pants.

Buy two cheap chairs on site

Buy lots of Hot and spicy cider.

Job done!

Or, if he really really doesn't want to camp (and once people are set against something it is VERY hard to change their minds. Even if they have a change of heart they might not want to admit it!) then there was a thread on the questions page about hotels - the poster had booked a hotel room for 5 days for £250?

The tent boots and so on will set you back a hundred quid or so anyway 9though you'll still need boots!) so it's not that outlandish?

I know it's a hassle getting on and off site and so on, but at least you would be there!

I was also going to say "leave him at home!" Just fromt his board, I am convinced Glasto would be the best festival to attempt alone, sure you would have a ball!

Guys!!! Thank you all for your suggestions............ I'm going to give them all a shot...... and failing it all will do the casual "I'll go without you!" Tell him to look out for me on the highlights!!!

You've cheered me up no end!!

Thanks for the links too!!

I'll look out for the efest flag!

how come people struggle to spell wuss in this thread :)

why on earth would you need to hire a campervan in jersy and then come over?

just fly over to one of the london based airports and hire a wicked camper in the in london and drive it to glasto then return it to their depot in london after the festival and get your flight home

they are perfect for festivals and very reasonably priced (£45 per day for a 2 seater £55 per day for a £5 seater so £270 all in if you want it from the wednesday to the monday)

Says it's a minimum of 7 days hire, fixed £450 fee. On the "Glastonbury 2009" bit on the site. There's an early bird special of £350 but I think this might be expired now.
