This is it. If there are going to be 12 bands they need to be truely awesome bands. For example having NIN below linkin park isn't that different from reading having nin and pumpkins a couple of years ago.

The quality of the line up needs to make up for the lack of choice (and the lack of a third day)

Well, despite the fact I ain't from England and won't attend this festival, I still want some good bands announced, like NIN, AiC or the likes of Maiden or Anthrax.

And why? Because that means they will be in Europe by that time, probably some of them will play in other Sonisphere's and that represents a great possibility of them coming to Portugal! Btw, Optimus Alive!09 (July 9) has the same line-up as Sonisphere Barcelona (July 11) and is a lot cheaper. And I'm attending of course

The format of the festival does raise a question though.

Presumably the two stages have got to be a similar sort of size to one another, as the whole idea is that it's possible to watch 12 bands from start to finish if you want to. So would the "second headliner" be the top band on the stage that doesn't have Metallica, or the band below Metallica on their stage?

Seems a silly question to ask, but it would affect how big the bands to be announced are.

It's already a given that NIN and Alice in Chains (Neil) and Machine Head (they're everywhere) will be announced, what nobody has a clue about yet though is who is playing where.

it will probably be two stages of similar size, alternating throughout the day, so yes the second headliners will be on the other stage just before metallica. (which is obviously guesswork but seems the logical explanation)

we will know more by 9am. I'm really stoked to see how many bands they are announcing.
