Seperate Coach Travel

Not sure if this has been posted by anyone else so far but I havent seen this info before on here

On the regular See Tickets email I receive I noted the following information

COACH PACKAGES - GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL COACH TRAVELTickets are now sold out for this year's festival but how are you getting there? Why not take the greener option of getting to this year’s festival by travelling on a coach and leaving the car at home. Choose from a variety of departure towns around the UK and let us take you direct to the Festival on the day of your choice. We are also pleased to announce that we have frozen our prices from 2008 for this return journey.

So looking at that I conclude that they are selling no coach / ticket packages this year and asking people to book them seperately.

As a result I feel some peoples optimistic estimates of how many tickets will be available on the 5th April may well need to be re-evaluated and plans put in place of what they intend to do to secure one of these elusive 'Golden Tickets' if they havent done so already.

Just a Heads up guys and girls. Hope its useful information for you.

On the NME website video news for the 6th February, the polite young lady states that only cancelled or returned tickets will go on sale on April 5th. Now that surely is not gonna be a lot....... basically if you aint got a ticket now you're f**ed!

I plan to drive there, as I think the majority of people do. I wonder if these optional extra of coach travel rather than an obligation will actually reduce the number of people taking up this form of transport.

I have seen reference by various posters on here that it is part of the licencing conditions that a certain number of people travel by coach / public transport

Is this the case and is this something that could cause problems for the organisers in the future if people are not obligated to travel by coach with a package ticket?

I doubt we will get a firm answer from anyone how many cancelled or unpaid deposit tickets there will be in April, but I am of the opinion that there wont be many.

With the new deposit scheme in its 1st year I cant see if even an average of the previous 10 years cancelation rates can be used to guestimate the number of tickets that will be returned.

Could be a raging success with negligible rates of cancelations or above and beyond previous averages.

I think they are obligated to have a certain amount of people to travel by coach to help ease the local traffic. I'm pretty sure this is part of the festival license agreement. The problem is I know a lot of people who in the past have only got the coach + ticket package as all the normal tickets had sold out. My worry is that because people already have their tickets they will be more likely to travel to Pilton in the comfort of their own car.

Booked national express coach from victoria as soon as put deposit down.

Me and 3 mates got coach last year for first time, and was generally worried after reading what everyone had to say on here about 2007 shambles.

But national express was brilliant, on the way and return. Couldn't believe how hassle free and quick it was.

I don't mind the coach, although 2007 Sunday night was a bit of a nightmare as it was supposed to leave around midnight so had to run as soon as Chemical Brothers finished only to find a complete lack of organisation, standing in pouring rain, and finally getting on a coach around 4am - with no working heater or toilet!

Last year was a bit better, but again it was some crazy time like 5am, so I ended up staying up rather than trying to fold my tent up at that kind of time in the morning.

This year I'd like to arrive a bit earlier on the Wednesday and leave at a more sensible time (say 10am) on the Monday.

Keeping my eye on the liftshares, someone is trying to organise a minibus from Liverpool, failing that I'm thinking about getting a train to Bristol, Bath, Yeovil, maybe even Brum, staying in a cheapo hotel Tuesday night to get there bright and early on Wedensday.

Looking quite a hassle and expensive whatever way I do it though.
