Post Glastonbury Festival: Wicker Man, Truck or Leeds?

After major withdrawl symptoms after last years Glastonbury I've decided to go to another festival later in the season to wean me back gently into real life!

Some mates go to Roskilde but that's only a few days later, I'd like to have a month or so between them.

I've heard good things about Wickerman, supposed to be a Glastonbury-like atmosphere on a smaller scale. Tickets are relatively cheap, no big-big headliners but I'm usually more interested in the smaller acts anyway.

Being Scottish myself I should be able to talk the local lingo :P

Another possibility is Truck on the same weekend which a few people have also said is really good, and it's a bit cheaper too!

Then there is Leeds - I was on a train to Leeds last year when people were going and I was quite jealous!

But at 41, and considering I usually go to festies on my own, it sounds like it could be a bit scary, being surrounded by NME influenced teenagers letting gas canisters off and generally causing trouble when they get bored.

On the other hand, it would be an experience, and I don't like to close my mind to things until I've experienced them first hand. Though I'd imagine it's not easy getting tickets, and they are a bit pricey.

Decisions decisions!

Any recommendations? Have I maybe overlooked another possibility?

Latitude sounds good, I'd imagine it must be hard to get tickets though? I found a second chance place selling them at £450 each - eek!

I've thought a few times about T in the park, (I was born in Kinross!) never quite got around to trying to get tickets though. Might be because I hate Tennants lager, and can't get past memories of being very ill on the stuff

Rockness might be worth a pop.

Anyone been to wickerman or truck to comapre it with Glasto?

I'm thinking it's good to start checking out a few alternative festies with a fallow year coming up :P

Never been to Leeds or the Truck. I'd recommend The Wickerman thou. Great friendly atmosphere there and even thou there's no huge names (KT Tunstall and Gary Numan headlined last year), there's lots of good smaller and medium sized acts playing on the various stages and tents.

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Latitude or Wickerman sounding like the front runners, though the Trowbridge Village Pump Festival sounds like it could be really interesting.

Hmm, thinking I could do Beautiful Days in August too ... was supposed to be going to Liverpool Sound City but missus got her am dram production that week, so maybe an August festival instead.

Best not get too carried away though, my credit card is cowering in the corner!

How strange - I was reading the other festival forums for some ideas myself!!! Am still on a come down from Glasto 08 and absolutely cannot wait for June 24th to start all over again! So much so that we've decided we'd also like to have another festival to look forward to to make the 5 hour journey back to Manchester more bearable this year!!! :D

We had thought either T or Leeds but I have to say, the thing I love about Glasto is the feeling you get from all around. Everyone is soooo nice and relaxed and just sort of happy to be there, doing their own thing, I just loved it. Really safe, friendly, do as you please kind of feeling..

Just been reading through forums for T and Leeds and I'm just not sure it's the same sort of thing?? Seems more like a music concert at the stage, not allowed to bring your own drinks in, you're hearded out at 11pm, to your campsite (Glasto you alomost pitched on the arena! Not a campsite?....) Sounds more like a camping weekend with a couple of gigs thrown in?? Also, maybe more for the end teens / early twenties getting plastered (Absolutely nothing wrong with that can I just say!!!) and falling about into tents??

What do you think? Or am I being ridiculous about T and it's absolutely fine??

x
