WEATHER 2009 !

I'm upping the stakes over 2003, excellent though that was, and holding out for a Glastonbury as good as 1995. Now THAT was a scorcher and a half ....

Those who remember 1989 (I wasn't there sadly) will say that it was even hotter than 1995, then. A repeat of that would be most welcome.

Those who dare to moan about the 'risk' of Glastonburey being 'too hot' or 'too dusty' or whatever, should be thrown compulsorily into a vat of cold mud of 2007 consistency and have a hose trained over their head for five days near continuously.

Fukk any talk of 'middle way', man. We need ultra dry ultra hot ultra sunny extremes.

You can shelter and protect yourself from the sun, but you can't sit down in the mud! ;)

It was a good festival though, wasn't it?

Just goes to prove that whatever the weather throws at you, and however inconvenient and/or uncomfortable it might be, there's no excuse for not having a good time..

I think the only problem might be when you're actually "stuck" watching bands.

Hopefully, they'll have the big water guns out... ;)

Phoenix 96 was the nuts in terms of heat - no respite for 4 days. Seriously hot, and unlike Glasto nowhere to shelter except in tents - the site being on an old airfield was flat with no trees. A superb weekend though with one of the great line ups - no Glasto that year being the main reason!

This is what we need:

1. A decent bit of rain a couple of weeks before the fest, get the valley nice and green

2. Dry weather for at least a week beforehand to let the site dry a bit, but

3. Perhaps a bit of very light rain the day before, just to stop the place dusting up

4. Sunshine and the very gentlest of breezes with occasional white fluffy clouds Wed - Monday

5. A bit of damp mist every morning to keep the ground from getting dusty

6. As much rain as the Atlantic can throw our way from Tuesday onwards!

That's what I mean by a middle way!

Yes but Phoenix had a water cannon! - We were just on the spot were the bulk of the landed, we even took shampoo in one day and washed our hair while people were flaking out at the front

Don't think a water cannon would go down too well at glastonbury tho, not with water aid banners plastered in the background

great festival

In the west coast of Scotland the weather has been crazy today! 10 minutes of Glasto 2003 sunshine followed by 10 minutes of Glasto 2005 rain! 10 minutes of Glasto 2003 sunshine followed by 10 minutes of Glasto 2005 rain! etc. Got 2003 sunshine at this minute in time but how long it will last for I don't know!

2003 or 2008 conditions for Glastonbury this year would do me just grand. ;)

JACKONE has just opened his Glastonbury Festival Forecast blog over on Netweather

Far too early to say anything for sure on his forst indications, which are mixed between positivity and less so.

These are technical forecasts so bear with him please, he's working hard for us on some very complicated data .....

Summary

So by the weekly CFS, there are sight indications that the festival period will be drier than average and more settled weather than average can also be expected.

Daily CFS

I will also be looking at the daily CFS, to see if any patterns emerge over time, so far there have been 2 runs, and both suggest a slightly more unsettled festival period than average, so this tends to go against the initial indications of the weekly CFS.

The next full update will be next weekend, however there will a midweek update going by the latest daily CFS outputs
