Leaving The Festival Early

Today's announcement of Hyde Park Calling raises a dilemma for me.

I'm a Huge Springsteen fan, which is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Glastonbury. I am also a big Dave Matthews Band fan. Seeing as they're both playing in London on Sunday, I'm very tempted to see that show too. I'm not at all familiar with Blur, so I don't feel like I need to stay for that, although I might be bummed at missing Fleetwood Mac if they play on Sunday.

Is there any big downside to leaving on Sunday morning? Other than of course the fact you miss out on a day's activities at Glastonbury. I might be arriving late Wednesday or Thursday morning, so I still will be there for 72+ hours.

Also, I will be beholden to public transportation, so I'm wondering if there will be transportation on Sunday morning from Glastonbury to Bristol, which I assume is the closest train station, where I can catch a train to London. Does a shuttle operate during the whole weekend?

Thanks in advance. I wouldn't mind at all, if DMB was in fact the rumoured 4th headliner.

the closest station is castle cary & there's free shuttle busses from the site to there (i'm pretty sure they run all weekend).

the only downside to leaving sunday morning is that you miss a day's entertainment, like you say. you'll miss out on all of the monday morning traffic too.

I'm sure Bruce's sets won't be identical. And unlike many posters here, I'm a big Dave Matthews Band fan, and they have a very big following over here in the states. I guess it's kind of like mentioning Robbie Williams to an American, and they don't know who you're talking about, while in the UK, he's like a G-d. It would be a treat for me to see Bruce & DMB at the same show. It would be a bummer, however, to miss out on the final day at Glastonbury, although I would be able to avoid the mass exodus 24 hours later.

"Woeful U2?" They're probably going to be the toughest ticket in Europe this summer, so I don't know if that qualifies them as woeful. Besides, I've heard that Spain is one of the wildest crowds for concerts, so it would be a treat to see them there.

Not a chance. Not even close.

I think you'll be surprised just how unknown they are here. They've got a dedicated fanbase, but outside of that most people here don't know much at all about them, and a fairly sizeable portion of festival goers won't have heard of them at all. If they were to play Glastonbury, they'd be lucky to end up more than halfway up the Pyramid Stage bill.

As for leaving the festival early: Don't do it. You'll be deeply regretting the decision on Sunday Morning if you're walking out the gates with the festival in full swing. Especially if you then end up in Hyde Park, which is a horrible place to watch a concert even at the best of times.

Don't do it, you'll regret it forever.

You only get one chance to pop your Glastonbury cherry and you should savour it.

Take the advice of the board, they have your best interests at heart and forget about the headliners. So you don't fancy Blur, there is so much more than the main stages and Sunday evening / morning at the Stone Circle can restore your faith in humanity.

Just my view, but anyone going to leave Glasto to see another band is quite simply crazy.

Plenty of time in life to see DMB or even Bruce on his own patch, don't ruin your glasto experience doing it though, its only music after all.

i agree....dont leave Glasto early, i never want to leave on Monday, im a big U2 fan and Bruce fan but a bigger fan of Glasto. Do not come to Glasto thinking its just a gig its a million times more than that. Makes me think all this hoo ha about bruce playing what would the boards be like if u2 did headline glasto, 'on fire' i would suggest, with the detractors moaning and the fans who would walk over broken glass to see them there trading insults. yes there latest is a bit odd but at least its different.

but again to the bruce/u2 fan....glasto is better than a gig and should only be left early in emergencies. i had a friend who had to leave early on the friday as her hubby was called into work cos of staff shortages....he was an AA man too....id rather loose my job

You'd be surprised how many people have heard of them actually................... They played Glastonbury once before in 1995, So ME has definitely heard of them and they are also one of the top turing bands in the world, albeit the majority of there tours are in America.............. Would be a great addition to this years line up!!!!

Miss a whole day of Glasto to see the DMB with a load of brits who won't get it, and to see a Bruce gig that in all probability is going to be Very similar to his glasto set (and nowhere near as important or epic) ..... you are one crazy son of a bitch.

On the sunday you could see loads of different bands of all types of genres that you may never really get the chance to see again. You live in the states, you can see DMB and Bruce all the time!

I can guarantee you will be stood in Hyde Park on the sunday wondering what the hell you have done. Don't do it dude.

PS. You are right, Robbie Williams is a God .... a God of shiteness
