Oasis and The Killers WILL headline V09

V would sell out whatever, if they based their decisions on record sales then I'm sure 'Il Divo' would be sencond from top main stage. I'm hoping for decent headliners in the tents. Plus I'm gonna have to invest in an electric fence to keep my shit safe from the influx of scumbags in tow for Oasis.

Out of interest, to all the people excited by the prospect of the Killers again, did you not see them last time? or does your affection for them outweigh any objectivity you may have about what makes a 'good' live band?

I don't understand the thinking that there's a finite group of headliners that seems to be 'The Foos, Chilis, Killers, Arctics, Greenday, Radiohead' and the other handful of names that have had the monopoly on the UK fests over the past few years. There are PLENTY of bands that have the requisite popularity (enough to sell out a UK arena tour quickly seems to be the measuring stick) to headline & be a genuine surprise. R&L are rumoured to have KOL & the Arctics, again, absolute w*nk. KOL will be playing after their 2nd arena tour of their latest album & played all the fests last year too & the Arctics have 2 albums that they've absolutely toured the shit out of (pretty much the same as The Killers). If you're a big Killers or AM fan you've had LOADS of chances to see those bands. IMO a festie headliner should be someone you rarely get a chance to see....for that reason alone Glasto have come up trumps 2 years on the trot by pulling out Jay-Z & this years rumours of Springsteen, Neil Young & Blur. Last year R&L had Rage & Metallica which was pretty special but it would've lost all it's shine if noth acts had just toured the f**k out of the UK prior to their appearance.

I wasn't suggesting that V would book Metallica or RATM, my point was that when they played R&L it was quite a coup as they hadn't done a shitload of dates across the country prior to the their festival appearances. V previously had the Foo's who are a damn sight 'heavier' than someone like The Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam.

Regarding the 'good reviews' about the Killers set, they were very very average, every time I've seen them they've been nothing but average & certainly not capable of banging out a 'headline' performance of the likes of Radiohead, Foo's, Muse etc. If you read a review saying they were great I'd wager it was from a Killers fansite blog or by Brandon Flowers' mum.

I'd love the Beastie Boys but as I put in previous posts, they're way to big to headline the Channel 4. They'd headline the main stage.

I agree that there's a real lack of imagination by festivals when it comes to headliners ..... but they're commercial businesses (which Glasto isn't), so why expect them to do anything except take the safe bet with a guaranteed sell-out? If they feel the need to be doing 'something special' then they can take that risk with the undercard without it having much impact on how the tickets sell.

Having said that, some try harder than others. Thank god.

As for saying Reading was special for having Metallica, which planet have you been living on? I reckon they've put in nearly as many UK fest headline sets as the Chilis in the last five years. :)

Right either way you look at it, these are massive bands to book, they will sell V out, The Killers have sold out their tours in the past two years faster than anyone else, they tour a lot, and they're constantly sold out within an hour, apart from the occasional ticket here and there

Oasis are a hugely popular band and have sold loads of tickets already this year, the demand is there for these acts and they are popular with the V crowd and are willing to play

what were the alternatives, yes Blur, but obviously v couldn't get them booked

Snow Patrol er no thanks dull as dull can be

Green Day aren't doing festivals otherwise they'd have done Reading and Leeds

Arctic Monbkeys don't want to play V otherwise Im sure they would have done, they've done Reading before, V would surely book them and throw loads of cash their way, maybe next year

Chil Peppers aren't touring

Kings of Leon we had last year

REM aren't touring

White Stripes aren't touring

Morrissey pulled possibly the smallest headline crowd Ive ever seen in my life and everyone was at Razorlight instead

Razorlight aren't big enough anymore, but might play anyway [i can see it]

who's left?

Not much to be honest

I think V have done well plus, The Killers probably aren't charging HUGE fees, and I bet they got the package of the Oasis tour, Oasis, Kasabian & The Enemy as one and for not as much as you would expect, Oasis drew a huge fee in 2005, I bet it hasn't cost more this time around because they're playing so many shows

I think V have done a very clever thing, if you want different headliners, you're gunna have to go different places, I went TITP last year as well as V for RATM & REM, I knew they wouldn't be at V, REM just fitted it in their summer European tour, and RATM won't get booked as a V headliner

You should all be aware of the type of headliners V gets, Im just glad its not Madonna or some other act like this, Kylie in the JJB was fine in 2001, in fact Id welcome her back, but I would much prefer a Killers or Oasis ending my night

That being said I can see some serious Dance acts on at the same time from the likes of Orbital, Faithless, Basement Jaxx or Pendulum, I reackon they will have a dance headliner on one of the other stages both nights from that lot above

Hmmm, I am fairly impressed.

Bit of a dilemma though. I got my ticket (and early entry) in the presale, I've also got a ticket for Glasto. I'm definitely going to Glasto with my girlfriend and we'll be going to another festival. I initially found out about Bloodstock (which has Amon Amarth, Saxon, Apocalyptica and Megadeth amongst others) and found out the other day about the Nebworth festival with Metallica and Linkin Park. I'm really tempted to cancel V and go for either Bloodstock or Nebworth (probably the latter).

Don't get me wrong, I loved V last year, particularly being in the big forum camp. But, ahhh, I wish I had more cash, lol.

Neil - Apart from last year, Metallica have only played a few times (as far as I know, you're the expert) they did Download in 06, 04 & R&L in 03? My point was that they hadn't played in the UK on proper tours prior to their festival appearance, whereas Kings of Leon, Oasis, Killers et al have either toured extensively over the past couple of years and/or will be doing arenas a couple of months before the festival.

Oasis are a hugely popular band and have sold loads of tickets already this year, the demand is there for these acts and they are popular with the V crowd and are willing to play
