WHITESNAKE are very happy to announce they have committed to playing a one-off UK gig in 2009 at the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL on JUNE 14th with DEF LEPPARD...The show will coincide with action-packed Anniversary releases of the multi-platinum albums, ‘SLIP OF THE TONGUE’, marking it’s 20th Anniversary, & the ‘SLIDE IT IN’ album, which celebrates it’s 25th Anniversary this year.

It is understood there is also a SPECIAL EDITION of their award winning, 2008 album, ‘GOOD TO BE BAD’, featuring bonus tracks, being released around the same time.

In preparation for the DOWNLOAD show, WHITESNAKE will also be playing 3 weeks of shows around Scandinavia & Europe, starting in NORWAY on the 21st MAY, & will include headlining several festivals, & playing some low key, smaller venues in towns & villages outside of major cities.

WHITESNAKE singer, DAVID COVERDALE, said that in these uncertain times, when it is economically difficult for some people to get to see rock shows in their major cities, then it is the responsibility of the artist to take their music to the people, & that’s what WHITESNAKE intends to do, before undertaking a major North American tour in Summer.

WHITESNAKE's JUNE 14th show at the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL will mark the 4th time the band has performed at DONINGTON PARK...1981...1983...1990 & now 2009"

Main thing I find interesting is that it doesn't even mention headlining... Great news though, so maybe a bigger headliner above them!!

it was billed as a co-headline tour and looking at some reviews thats very much how it went down, so would have thought that would be the case here in which case i would think they would say that in the release... hmm...

So how about potentially motley crue / manson friday, slipknot /prodigy saturday and def leppard/ whitesnake on the sunday. Think that'd be pretty solid but where would limp bizkit fit in

This is getting better & better. Two of the bands I spent a great deal of time watching in the 80s that I wanted to go & see last year but couldn't because of a fairly serious ankle operation are now going to pop up at a festival for which I've already got a ticket - oh yes! I'm happy to take what I'm given but Im very happy with what Im being given so far this year.

Now, AC/DC?

wow, somebody mentioned the possibility of these two to me today and i laughed at it, well i'll eat my words now. Looking like a really good sunday line up.

If they're not headlining it must be Heaven and Hell, or AC/DC?

Im pretty sure the tour did good buisness...

Dates where added in due to demand.

I know for a fact at the Glasgow show they increased the capacity due to ticket demand.

TBH It was a little hard for Def Leppard to follow BSC and Whitesnake!!

I hate to say it but both acts are really pretty poor choices to headline.
