In the CD swap, Rabid and Greenfairy included a version of the Stone Roses classic Waterfall performed by the Travelling Band. Brilliant. One of the best covers I've heard in ages.

Banco De Gaia's new album is called Memories, dreams and reflections, the first CD is made up of reworkings (when does a cover become a reworking? Not sure?) of music that influenced him to embark on his 20 year career as Banco De Gaia, theres a wonderful Spirit of the Age by Hawkwind but his 25 min progtastic version of Pink Floyd's Echoes is just the best!!

Also like the Levs cover versions of English Civil War, Dirty Davey and Devil Went Down to Georgia..

This thread makes me think of The Jam 'That's Entertainment' from their classic 'Sound Affects' album. Nearly 30 years ago!

Epic album that I got for Christmas 1980 from Santa

And notably this track was never originally released in the UK as a single but was actually a German import rather than a UK release. I believe it is one of the highest charting singles of all time for an import due to thousands of nut cases like me buying it!

I don't really get the whole 'cover' issue...

a song is a song. If it's anywhere near half decent, other artists will interpret it whatever way they see fit. There are plenty of artist who might not have the 'talent' to write good original songs, and there are plenty who are deluded into thinking that their 'own' songs are as good as ones that are already out there waiting to be heard.
