savestheday
Chili Peppers are on, what Flea has described as, a "major hiatus", which I think pretty much means they're not coming back until they've run out of money.
damagedoor
Flea's doing another year of music training, so they've extended their hiatus.
babadoo
The organizers of the Sweden Rock Festival — which is set to take place June 3-6, 2009 in Sölvesborg, Sweden — will announce a "very special" addition to this year's lineup on Monday, March 2 via the the Stockholm radio station 106.7 Rockklassiker. The band's identity will be revealed by host Tord Karlsson between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. during a radio program called "Sweden Rock 30 Minutes". The details will then be posted on the festival's official homepage. Wonder if this is Downloads band too
Axl
Possibly, though that'll be (if my phone is on the ball) 6.30/7am over here. Not that Download announcements don't have a history of being leaked early that is (albeit only indirectly in this case). But yeah, if it's one of the bands that have been talked about, it's probably going to be Downloads announcement. gard
Quite happy with FNM being announced, busy educating myself on a bit more of thier stuff now, and know that there are also a fair few people out there happy with this news, although there are also quite a few that aren't!! There are plenty of people saying that they just aren't worth the build up and hype, but to be honest, I think we have caused 99% of that ourselves! And I'll hold my hand up to doing my bit in starting this thread, I guess when I saw the countdown on the main site, I just got a little over excited! But at the end of the day, before that was put there everyone was asking when the next announcement was going to be!! So the helpful organisers thought they would answer the question by putting a countdown on the site... Obviously it couldn't be announced there and then because there were some lose ends to tie up, but at least they told us when we would be told... I'm not saying it wasn't a stroke of genius by them in the way that the hype has hit fever pitch over the last week, but maybe it wasn't quite what was intended... Yes I know it does say special announcement too but maybe thats unrelated to the headliner, maybe they are confirming MoR sunday or something along those lines... Either way, I am a happy bunny this year, and think its good that download are trying something a little different this time with the classic rock angle, rather that just them, reading and sonisphere hitting head on in a year when people haven't got the cash to splash... So, regardless who else is added now (although Megadeth would make me very happy after missing them at Priest Feast) all I can say is ROLL ON JUNE!!! Sparticus
they seem to have learnt from their mistakes, as in grouping bands together on days (i.e. limp bizkit and korn, both big 90's nu metal bands) which should help shift day tickets, and the aformentioned cock rock day (def leppard is a big no no though, it should be van halen headlining!). Still wouldn't mind some punk though, nofx are touring in the uk the month before download, would be brilliant on the main stage (bloodhound gang and less than jake as well for some early afternoon fun times!). damagedoor
According to Andy Copping's Q&A thread on the main forums, the top three main stage bands and second stage headliners are going to have their logos on the poster, and the rest will be block text. So, from what's there right now, I reckon Matticus is nearly spot on. Friday: Faith No More Korn Limp Bizkit (Motley Crue headline second) Saturday: Slipknot Marilyn Manson Pendulum (Prodigy headline second) Sunday: Def Leppard Whitesnake ZZ Top (????? headline second) Assuming Motley Crue have to play Friday, which I'm guessing they do from what everyone's said. So - as well as FNM, there's one more 'logo' band to be announced.
