incident
Holy f**k. I've continually refused to let myself believe it up till now, but with an Eavis quote in there it might just be real. Given Bruces historic refusal to play Festivals is probably the most impressive booking any proper UK festival has managed to get for a number of years. Not only that, but the man really can deliver on any amount of hype - this is sure to be one of the all time great Glastonbury moments. Full credit for breaking the story should go to eFestivals who were absolutely the first people to predict this several months ago. At the time I repeatedly insisted it wouldn't happen, you can't believe how happy I am that I was dead wrong.
Pauljoanss
Great news. I have been watching his Superbowl performance (have to use torrents because all taken off youtube), a bit over the top but loads of energy, its goin to be great. Just hope big attractions on other stages at the same time otherwise may be a bit tight in that field.

paulo999
"Michael Eavis's daughter, Emily...confirmed that several bands who "self-announced" their presence at the event, such as Florence and The Machine, The Ting Tings, Doves and Franz Ferdinand, are indeed playing." Knew the Doves were interested, but didn't know they'd self confirmed. Cool.
Al the CAT
Subtle change of wording from the Telegraph website... Bruce Springsteen to headline Glastonbury Bruce Springsteen is expected to be announced today as the main headline act at this summer's Glastonbury Festival. sifi
Michael Eavis's daughter, Emily, who co-runs the event and lobbied hard for Jay-Z's inclusion last year, indicated that the rest of the roster would, as always with Glastonbury, boast the full panoply of music styles. Apart from rock / metal, obviously

Sipperana
Might have just come at the right time for me, having been a lifelong Springsteen naysayer who has recently been melted somewhat by the excellentNebraska album. I'd always put the Boss in the same bin as Dylan until I discovered the humour and rootsy bluesiness of some of the Zimmerman's work. Maybe seeing him at Glasto could do the same for Springsteen for me. Good to see Florence is gonna be there. She was great at Brixton on Saturday night - something of the Janis Joplins about her, though better looking and thinner

stonedhenge
bloody better be someone else worth watching, bruce springsteen, it's almost laughable, we are in the year 2009, not 1970, HOW is he good enough to headline?? or is that what you all mean, the headliner's at glasto are always rubbish? hip hop shit last year? "the boss" this year, i could understand maybe popping along to see him if he was playing in the afternoon, between say ,fleetwood mac and blur, just to say you have seen him, but not the main event to go shouting about, if fact i'm quite embarresed to tell people that he is playing, cant wait to find out who is playing at the same time, but seriously, anyone who calls himself "boss" is gonna get flamed big time, i might even piss in a bottle and let him have it, now, altogether as one, "BOOOOOOOO!" stonedhenge
actually, you should look on this as a blessing, not a curse. seeing as this is your 1st time there, if you loved all 3 headliners on the pyramid, the only headline experience you'd come back with is that stage at 11pm. this way you get to pick something way out there from any of the 30 odd music performance stages (or go for a bit of comedy, or theatre, or poetry) and truly have a rounded festival 1st time up. belive some, some of the magic of the place can be found with a small crowd, watching/listening to a great performance that you and only a select few get to share. sifi
He is one of the biggest selling artists of all time. He pretty much never plays festivals. Whether you like him or not is irrelevant - he is a HUGE act.
Sam Crawley
So Bruce confirmed. According to the article Emily said that "several bands who "self-announced" their presence at the event, such as Florence and The Machine, The Ting Tings, Doves and Franz Ferdinand, are indeed playing." "Several".... "such as"... it's all a bit woolly. Is there a source press release or anything with more detail about? I have failed to find anything on the Orange site post 10am either. I note that the Telegraph article merely quotes the Guardian - strange old times, eh?
