benisright
ps... I have said on a couple of occassions how I don't understand why some Bruce fans seem to have problem accepting that some people might prefer to see someone else.. pps.. it'll be interesting to see/hear the response from some of the sceptics (and I don't mean the really negative "I'll go along just so I can say how truly rubbish he is" types) after they've seen him

Driving home from a match 10 days ago, there was this truly god-awful song playing on the radio. Me and my companion looked at each other and started laughing at how goddam awful it was. At the end of the song the DJ said "That was Bruce Springsteen from his new album...." If that's the quality that can be expected you can keep it. The Nal
If youre 50/50 about Springsteen and not sure who to go see, Id recommend him purely on the basis that there are a lot of people I know who were the same before they saw him and were converted into fans straight after the gig. His live show is undeniably good.
eFestivals
but live, he's a different beast altogether Me, I'll reserve judgement on that until I see him. His recorded output certainly doesn't merit such obsessiveness, just as Oasis' doesn't. As someone who sees hundreds of bands each year I know I can recognise a good 'un even if it's music that's not my thing, so you'll get my opinion after the event if I end up seeing him. sifi
I don't get this "live he's a different beast" kinda thing. For me music is about music. Great, he can play witha bit of passion, great his band are tight, but in the end doesn't it come down to the songs?

sifi
different people get or want different things fro mtheir music. For me, th3e live performance is what I want most, and there are plenty of bands who I'cve seen, where the recorded stuff doesn't give much of a clue as to what you actually feel from a live show. The Who, Wilco, Springsteen, MC5 are a few. If there weren't any good songs at all, then I think it'd be fairly unlikely that they'd be much good live. I happen to think he's written a whole shed load of fantastic songs.. all the usual examples Born To Run (what's not to like about that.. as a record, as a performance.. ?), Born The USA etc just scratch the surface... eFestivals
Nearly coughed my soup up all over the keyboard there! Dont compare the man with f**king Oasis! Even if it is just as an example. Do go see him then, guarantee you'll be surprised. Oasis fans say the same. And at least Oarses don't play the blandest middle of the road american rock. ferraristu
I know more than just Born in the USA Tonyblair, come off it. I know on paper I should love the bloke, like I know on paper I should love The Who but neither of them do it for me. But I might as you say give him a go. But we've been here before I love Born to Run. I laughed out loud when when Christopher Moltisanti on the Sopranos said he was late because "The highway was jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive" .... I quite Thunder Road, I quite like The River, I quite like Dancing in the Dark, I quite like Atlantic City, I quite like Dancing in the Dark. And that's a lot of quite likes and not enough loves I'm afraid. I've just listened to his version of Chimes of Freedom. It's very good. Red Day
there are no radiohead obsessives. there are simply radiohead fans (sane ) and non fans (insane )
Jens Wildman
My fav version of the best song ever made. The hype before he went on stage and opend with this one was beyond belife. This was the first perfomance after releasing Born To run, and his first gig outside the states ever. Btw Bruce is 26 years old here. Thunder Road Springsteen live at Hammersmith Odeon, 1975

Filthy
I wasn't really impressed after listening to his greatest hits recently having never seen the point of him before. However the crazy almost religious pedastal he's placed on by many in this thread and the utter disbelief that anyone can even question his majesty makes me more determined to hate him. I shall be elsewhere methinks.

Filthy
Can't listen at work. However Bill Adama appears to be on the drums in the last one.
