andyblack
Fringe fortnight has begun!!!!! yesterday's glastontree saw a sold out and packed out Orange Tree beer garden party till late to open the fringe. The official launch party tonight is invite only, but we're throwing an after party, from 8pm till late in Leicester's famous Turkey Cafe. We've got some bloke called budd bringing his guitar as well. supposedly. so erm, feel free to come for drinks downstairs in the the Turkey Cafe from 8.15ish onwards. www.summersundaefringe.com
Ed Leaf
The Falling Leaves arkestra will be playing one of the nine warm up parties @ the NRI on Thursday the 13th which is one of the two family friendly gigs on the night. Thursday of this week sees the Leaves playing a similar gig at the Donkey's Song Club as part of the fringe, with special guests tweaking their Bluegrass Shoegaze (shoegrass? bluegaze?) set. No didgereedoo's but plenty of wood & swing. Edited August 3, 2009 by Ed Leaf
andyblack
righty ho....so after a somewhat stupendous launch party, with amazing sets from Peter Wyeth and Pacific Ocean Fire, ace photos curated by Dave Wilson Clarke, and an after party featuring two very drunken members of the happy mondays, jersey budd's full band and a turkey cafe the fringe has begund. Twesta promote the Voluntary Butler Society tonight at Firebug.....which should be ace, and then PinkBox have a free label showcase tomorrow (with lots of free giveaways for attendees). Pinkbox are the label behind previous fringe acts such as toy heroes, kevin Hewick and ist. This year they've got 3 bands from their rosta on the main festival bill. Again, it's at firebug. did i mention anything about fringe thursday? .only 2000 tickets to shift (come on, you know you want them, £4 including open top bus trip round the city!!!). You fellows of all souls
people should absolutely check out the pinkbox gig this evening.........you even get a free CD featuring music from all of their acts. Listen to that cd, fall in love with YOU FELLOWS OF ALL SOULS, and then come and check us out at the Donkey on fringe festival night, or at the festival itself, on Sundays Rising Stage at 1pm sharp. Buy those fringe festival tickets people........you will regret it if you leave it too late.

andyblack
to be honest, if theres one fringe band i recommed anyone to see, its fists. they're tucked away in the shed, but played glasto on the bbc introducing stage. they're currently with a low profile, but something (or rather someone) tells me 6music will play them to death in the next 6 months
You fellows of all souls
Fists are very good at what they do, and if Arctic Monkeys-esque tunes are your thing then you could do a hell of a lot worse For those looking further afield, there's plenty of less commercial treats being offered at various venues across the Fringe.... There really is something for everyone, so get those tickets people!

ceph
theres going to be a quality line up nearly everyday for the next week. its cracking. i'm catching tellison and tubelord at firebug next week. the fringe website only shows it being tubelord have tellison dropped out? ceph
andyblack
yeah sadly, it seems as though tellison are potentially dropping out, hence we've dropped them from the line up, they're not sure if they can make it seems. we'll keep everyone updated. (and it seems we suffer just like the main festival)., stars of the very first warm up party, and return visitors from last year Love Ends Disaster! play tonight in Firebug, hot on the heels from their appearance at splendour supporting Ash. Notts Evening Post wrote the following article about them : http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/localban...il/article.html They've been name dropped by Bloc Party, supported Babyshambles, Youth Movies, Foals, Late of The Pier, Good Shoes, Ash, The Departure, The Feeling, Scouting For Girls, even INXS. Rough Trade tipped them for great things, and Fierce Panda look set to release their album. only £4 tonight, in a gig promoted and presented by the excellent Sweeping The Nation
SweepingTheNation
£5, actually (£4 was advance), but otherwise this is all true. I'd also mention support from Pagan Wanderer Lu, one man and his array of instruments making odd electronic pop with intelligent lyrics. Apparently Tellison's guitarist has done his neck in. andyblack
i think, gazs plan is to put a couple of the bands outside, and the rest inside. but they'll face the benches, so you'll still have to pay to get in. the new road inn is to accomodate families, who really cant get in the donkey.
