upgrades to servers

I was hoping to have an upgrade made to one of the eFestivals servers before tomorrow (when things will be busy due to the T in the Park announcement), but unfortunately, the new bits for the server haven't arrived in time, and so this upgrade will be delayed until later this week.

As a counter-measure in the meantime, I'm very much hoping that an upgrade can be made to another of the servers, which will help things along at the busiest times (tho won't be as effective as the upgrade mentioned in the first para above). I should have this upgrade confirmed later this afternoon, and as the hosting centre believe they have the bits for this available on their shelves it's hoped that this upgrade can be made this evening sometime. If/when this upgrade takes place, there might be some effect on the response of the website for around ten minutes, tho it won't cause the website to go offline completely.

A further server was installed onto the eFestivals system last week, so even if neither of the above gets to happen there's still more server capacity available than was the case at this time last year.

the upgrade mentioned in the second paragraph above should be happening within the next 30 minutes.

the upgrade to that server has now happened, and it's back online.

Everything should now be running as normal (or actually, better than normal ).

eFestivals will be totally offline today (Wed 25 Feb) from 5:20pm, for around 10 to 20 minutes.

This is so that a major upgrade can be made to one of the servers, which will result in a significant improvement in speed and accessibility of eFestivals, particularly at the busiest times.

Unfortunately, not everything that was planned to be upgraded could be upgraded, due to the supplier having sent some wrong parts.

However, that server has been upgraded to some extent, so things are still significantly better than they were.

There'll be some further offline time in the next week or two (yet to be arranged), so that the remaining upgrades can be done.
