  1. 1. Which of these four do you think will be the secret headliner?

    • Coldplay
      25
    • Arctic Monkeys
      15
    • Fleetwood Mac
      13
    • Led Zeppelin

On the Q website Eavis states that he won't announce the second saturday headliner until they go on and that it is a major band. Then again, when Neil Young is an other headliner, which seems true, than this major band has to be English and they have to be in to be a suprise act. So, English, Major and not too big an ego ...

Arctic Monkeys? Not Major!

Kaiser Chiefs? Not Major!

Keane? Not major!

Bloc Party? Not major, sadly!

Coldplay? Think not!

Oasis? Definitely not!

Radiohead? Could be!

Depeche Mode? Only available on friday!

Muse? Next year!

So, if I would have to put my money on Radiohead. What Am I overlooking?

fleetwood mac.

They're playing accoriding to neil, eavis said 2 english, 2 american....the current lineup of fleetwood mac is 2 english (fleetwood and john mcvie) and 2 american (buckingham and nicks). I think that could've just been a play on words as a hint.

Greatest hits show to promote the release of "rumours". Makes sense to me.

It's a nice thing for Mr Eavis to say, but I think Mr Festival Elf & Safety officer might suggest that announcing 'the biggest headliner Glastonbury has ever seen... [insert own favourite band/artist name here]' two minutes before the lights go up might not be the most sensible thing in the world to do, given previous issues with crowding on the routes into/out of the Pyramid at headliner changeover time.

But if I hear it's Coldplay, I'll see you in the crowd trying to get in (while many others will be trying to get out, yeah I know )

Major is really subjective.

I think major in this case just means that they would be headlining in any other case.

It can't be an act bigger than Bruce Springsteen, but it needs to be someone bigger than say Kaiser Chiefs who will be in an equivalent slot, but aren't regarded as a 'headliner'.

Won't Be:

Depeche Mode definitely aren't playing.

Bloc Party and Keane aren't quite at that stage yet.

Noel Gallagher said he hates playing Glasto so can't see it being them.

Muse will probably be in the next couple of years after their new album comes out

Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant really doesn't sound likely to me

Might Be:

Coldplay were originally ruled out, but there are fresh rumours.

Arctic Monkeys have headlined before so definitely are major.

Radiohead were apparently definitely not playing originally, but this may have changed.

Fleetwood Mac are playing, but not sure if they are popular enough now to be considered the 4th headliner

It could be the Cure, they are headlining Coachella (I think?)

suggest we speculate more in view what emily eavis said in december:

"But we're really lucky this year because there will be some total one-off exciting performances which aren't part of a massive tour and which you're not going to see at every festival. That's really exciting for us. "

any ideas? i can only think of possible rare combos eg neil young with crosby stills nash??

or one night onlys - Pink Floyd???

I'm not sure they will be able to do the "surprise" thing really. I know they have only got the "returns" to sell, so no need for it to sell tickets, but if it is a "one-off" then surely the anticipation is part of the fun, and I don't mean "oohh, a one off will be along in a minute, oh shit it's someone I truly hate clagging up an hour before Bruce and I am missing XXXX on a different stage", but the weeks and weeks of "where should I be", plus all the press hype which actually helps create the "one off" event.

Last years "secrets" up in the Park worked really well, and a couple of years ago we got into checking who was on the Guardian stage blackboard and managed to be stagefront for the Magic Numbers, but in both of those half the fun was the buzz of knowing what we were waiting for.
