pedmills
By the sounds of it, he is still playing but on the Sunday, in the Leonard Cohen slot of last year. It remains to be seen whether he will be regarded as a headliner or not, but I don't think that really matters.
autumndaze
I often tell banks what I'm up to "Hello, HSBC? I'm nipping down Tesco, we're out of bog roll"
pedmills
You may not tell your bank what you're up to, but when you're requiring a concierge service to ensure the booking of all transport, air-travel, accomodation etc. and also the financing of such things until payment is received by promoters and bookers, you just might. I seriously don't mind if you believe me or not, the only reason I posted is because I'm a Neil Young fan and thought others might like to know. It's not like his management ring me personally to tell me where he is at all times, I handle certain areas of financing for US companies in Europe and this is just one (albeit very cool) aspect of my job. I'm not even going to Glastonbury (damn shame I would love to see Blur, The Boss and Shakey all in one weekend!)
sammysundae
that facebook group is classic. i didn't really believe that those kind of people existed. "argh, one act i don't like is playing so i wan to sell my ticket. V looks much better, it has duffy AND the enemy" i'm not a huge neil young fan and if i was given the choice of another headliner i would probably have taken it. this would be great. i'd really enjoy seeing such a classic act, just not at the expence of DJ yoda or animal collective. i feel for all the people who were looking forward to a headline slot, but hopefully we'll get another great headliner and neil will get a good, long slot, which loads of extra people will thoroughly enjoy. the bank story sounds pretty legit, although it would have been a lot more useful about a week ago. if he does end up playing the sunday, it would be quite a turn out for the books. also, if he's not even headlining at glastonbury and he is the classic headliner at IoW, what a brilliant screw you to all those idiots on the forum, hilarious! kinglewi
The way you're saying it sounds pretty genuine to me...yay Neil Young for glastonbury!! This arrangement is almost better because we won't get loads of people complaining about him headlining, but still get to see him play
Wanderlei
I hope he's not playing. A waste of a slot IMO.
pedmills
The people on the IOW forum are going to be extra mad when they find out we have Neil Young in a lower slot than headliner.

paulhayhurst
If Glasto has 4 headliners then officially only 3 can play the final set of the day which means the 4th headliner is not a headliner as such. Springsteen sells out stadiums, The legend that is Young sells out arenas usually rather than stadiums......any possibility that Young could play before springsteen? Or am I just deluding myself and tying to stop myself forking out for IOW too??
robith
Unf**kinbelievable, f**king scenesters without an ounce of musical history/knoweledge regarding Neil Young or IOW festival itself, that festival has always had a tradition of putting on legendary bands/artists so I dont know what those idiots were expecting from the headliners, they probably wanted MGMT or White Lies to headline LOL. I went to IOW in 2004 when I was 22 just or the fact that The Who and David Bowie were playing and I actually thought the headliners for IOW this year were a bit poor till they announced Neil Young. As a rule I dont think people should be allowed to listen to indie/rock ect unless they can show respect for the history of the music and respect for the legendary artists who paved the way. Like I said, f**kING UNEDUCATED SCENESTERS. RANT OVER LOL

eFestivals
I'm starting to think that the NY @ IoW press release "exclusive" might well just be blatant bullshit of the same kind that was in the Bruce for Hard Rock Calling press release. Helping me in that direction is the obvious fact that IoW has struggled to find headliners this year, and with only a few months to go they need to ensure that it shifts tickets sharpish. ralph250
If Neil Young plays and isn't one of the four headliners then we could well be looking at the strongest pyramid line theres been

pedmills
The ideal Pyramid lineup for me would be this: Friday, youngish band who aren't coldplay Saturday, the "4th headliner" (not Fleetwood Mac) then Bruce Sunday, Neil Young then Blur this would sound good to me: Friday: Kasabian White Stripes Saturday: Bruce Springsteen Coldplay Fleetwood Mac Sunday: Blur Neil Young Or is 7 headliners asking too much? eFestivals
Neil, I normally bow to your judgement given efestivals fantastic track record...so help me...on what basis are you begining to think this? the fact that press releases sometimes contain bullshit - that was the case with the Bruce for HPC release, so why not this one? russycarps
Christ has anyone looked at that IOW forum recently? I am utterly agog. Check this out. Astonishing. "Would love to see Neil Young but, as seems to be the underlining sentiment, in his rightfull place as somewhere early Sunday afternoon and no where near a headline slot. Cold Play, The Rolling Stones, Muse, Foo Fighters, Faithless, REM, Snow Patrol, Police, etc, etc ,etc. Just some of the recent great headliners from various days in recent years. Surely Solo and John Giddings can not mention Neil Young in the same breath as these other acts." http://www.isleofwightfestival.com/forum/v...=a&start=30 That forum is like a car crash, I cant keep my eyes off it! russycarps
i see what you mean now, its hypnotic watching them get more and more indignant about it. there is 1 thing i hadnt thought about tho, they do only have 2 stages and so if you dont like him theres not a lot of choice mind you, they did choose to go to the most expensive festival of the summer (once factoring ferry costs) that only has 2 stages
