eFestivals
What do you mean? Singing horribly out of tune while pretending to play a guitar to Wonderwall over the PA? Nah, Bruce will start with a song. I actually meant the video, followed by wonderwall horribly out of tune. I personally thought his set was awful and left after about a half dozen songs, but that entrance was pure class, and exactly what he needed to do. eFestivals
So, I`l leave you a little video, and you tell me if this is "bland American rock" of the very worst kind matey, sorry. It's only saving grace is the sax.

Jens Wildman
Yup, that pretty much defines it
chevychase
unlike some here, I'm not a Bruce encyclopaedia. The track I heard off his new album on the radio the other day was as dire as it gets for even the world's worst pop act. And "Santa Claus..." was hardly a landmark moment in music, eh? TBH, even the likes of Born to Run doesn't get far past bland.
Jens Wildman
That's the maddest thing I've ever heard in my entire life. It's not a 'hit' so people who aren't fans won't recognise it. If that's his usual opener then fans will be expecting it, so it will be predictable for them. Jay-Z's entrance was exciting, clever and I was totally not expecting the video or wonderwall. It was a memorable, unlike 99% of bands opening songs. tylerdurden
are you mad? "jay-z's entrance was the best in festival history" thats the most ridiculous thing ever! he played a video, that he definitely didnt make and that wasn't very good anyway, then done the most appalling version of a british classic EVER, he didnt know the words, the strat was unplugged and he wasnt playing it anyway and he looked a twat in those glasses. i'm in no way a big oasis fan, but what he should've done, was a rap version of wonderwall, or learnt the f**king chords and words and done an acoustic version. THATS what he needed to do. not play a shit video that one of his minions made for him and then do whatever that "cover" was. *breath* Edited February 26, 2009 by tylerdurden
eFestivals
Can't begin to explain how excited I am at the prospect of seeing Bruce at Glasto. If you'd told me last year this was the case I'd have laughed...that said, I've held off commenting (too much) because even I -as I die-hard- am finding the fervant reverence in here pretty oppressive and if I was a non-believer, I might be tempted to give him a body-swerve on that basis. "You HAVE to listen to ALL his albums in order, best live act on the planet" etc etc...there's no doubt the announcent would have raised a few eyebrows but I was really looking forward to the uninitiated having a gander out of curiosity and seeing what the guy can do, just like five of my (by no means fanatical) mates did last summer when they accompanied me to Dublin. They all had a blast and -at the very least-have a respect for the guy. But I'm slightly concerned the devotees on here are so evangelical they're actually turning potential viewers off the Boss (ironically, exactly the type of hype he railed against all them years ago on his first trip to London). Have to say this though Neil -and please don't take it the wrong way mate, as you've said all along Springteeen would be there and you've been proved right, for which I am eternally grateful- that comment is beneath you. You admit you don't know much about the guy and say "Santa Clause was hardly..."; which, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is a bit like me saying "I know Paul McCartney's supposed to be massive, played and sold millions but all I heard was that one he did with Micheal Jackson (The Girl Is Mine and it was so bad..."). Not looking for a flame war. Your posts are (for obvious reasons) invaulable here..but pre-announcement you seemed pretty pro-Boss; and since it was made public I've detected a certain relish in sticking the boot in? Again, tell me if I'm wrong... Much as you've recognised, I've hit the point of boredom at all the rabid ranting from some who think their god shits only solid gold. He certainly doesn't, as Santa Claus and plenty other of his tracks prove (including the two I've heard from the new album) - and it's fair to point this out. I feel I'm able to appreciate the quality of great live acts even if I hate their output .... and history (when people have left their full-on fandom behind) seems to bear out that I get these sorts of things nearly always spot on. I'm certainly able to love acts live that I wouldn't go within a million miles of their recorded stuff. So, now it's up to Bruce. I'm curious to see him, and if I'm there to see him (which will depend on whether there's something I just don't want to miss elsewhere) I'll give him a full and proper chance, with none of my boredom from the ranting here carried as a chip on my shoulders. However, if he plays much of the bland shite that some people have been putting forwards here as his exceptional work then it's not going to work for me or for a significant number of the glasto crowd, I guarantee. Jens Wildman
A tenth avenue opener would be awesome As for me I'll take Streets of fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EHG3PuXpF0 or even jackson cage fukin fantastic
eFestivals
What has Springsteen got to rage about when he comes on? "They said I was bland middle of the road american rock, but I'll show them!" *plays bland middle of the road american rock song*
russycarps
I really wish people would stop putting links to live songs we simply MUST hear, or live albums we MUST download. And saying he is the best live act EVER. They are really, really putting me off the man. And I was looking forward to him before all this loons started going on and on and on. In most of the live stuff his voice sounds ruined.

chevychase
Or are we only to post positive messages on the whole of the efest glastonbury forum now?
russycarps
I can understand that. As I pointed out in another thread, I got into Springsteen though the Ghost Of Tom Joad album and then tracks.. not YouTube clips. If I at that point where to look at all those clips, I might not like it either.. who knows.. Springsteen can be bit of an acquired taste.. But, as some one once said, "if you first get Springsteen, you get him bad".. so all of these clips are fun to watch for us fans.. So, take a break from the Springsteen threads, sounds like you need it.
Jens Wildman
anh I'll stick around. Law of averages says you have to post a decent clip soon!
pedmills
I think the problem with the clips is that they are from ages ago and of songs that we won't have heard of and probably won't be played by him at glastonbury. Its not relevant. Edited February 26, 2009 by peteyboy

eFestivals
Another qustion, will this go live on tv? it's extremely likely to, yep. However, it's not Glastonbury that has the absolute say on whether it does or not - that's down to each act, their record label, and whoever holds each song's publishing rights.
