The libertines for next year

Pete Doherty has said that The Libertines will reform in 2010 – while former band-mate Carl Barat has claimed that the pair are still The Libertines anyway.

The pair spoke to Neil Cole on NME Radio at the Shockwaves NME Awards last night (February 25) - their only joint interview on the night - with Barat suggesting that he had plans for a solo album before any reformation takes place.

Cole mentioned that if he was interviewing them a few years ago he would have been interviewing The Libertines, to which Barat said: "You have got The Libertines in front of you – what are you talking about?"

Doherty added: "I've been trying to twist his arm about that one," then later said, "2010".

"I always put Pete forward as a little guinea pig," Barat then joked. "Pete solo, that worked out, so I'll do that next year."

To hear the interview at 3pm (GMT) and 7pm today (February 26), tune in through Sky Channel 0184, Virgin Media 975, Freesat 727 or via NME.COM/Radio.

Pete Doherty won the Best Solo Artist award at the bash last night.

I'd better start saving up for next year then, because if this is going to happen I'm going to be there. I've seen all four members seperately throughout the years, but never together. The Libertines are my absolute favorite band of all time, not solely for the music as I give that they weren't the most skilled and that sometime their songs struck out, but their energy, personal connection, and what they believed strikes a cord with me.

Knowing them though, they will announce the reunion five minutes before it happens and I won't have time to sort out tickets, plane, and lodging. Gah, I need to relocate.

I highly doubt that if the last minute development they were talking of, or the NME award booking, is anything to do with The Libertines, that it is The Libertines we are familiar with (as in all 4 original members). I'd bet that if it turns out to be them, it is actually either Pete or Carl solo, or potentially both of them, and we'll see the other show up and play a few tunes together. Gary and John won't be involved...things were not left on a good note between them and Pete, and there is really no need for them to return.

That being said, even if it is just Pete and Carl I'd be ecstatic. I miss them making music together.

i dont think they could headline the pyrimid, they could probably headline the other (even when you consider the stooges and bjork have headlined it). I kind of like them, but think that a reunion would be better if they did small venues, as they were never about headlining

As much as I love the Libs, there's no way they're big enough to headline. Babyshambles couldn't sell out an arena tour and Dirty Pretty Things couldn't even sell out Manchester Academy 2 on their last ever tour! They wouldn't suit a massive stage anyway and I doubt they'd want to play a massive stage cos their whole thing was about crowd interaction and spontaneity - impossible in front of 80,000 people! If they even get back together, it'd be for a gig on the Other Stage, headlining John Peel or Park or for early evening on the Pyramid. Definitely not Pyramid headliners!

I'm going to dispute most of what you said just there. While I certainly don't see them as big enough to be headlining the Pyramid, a reunion show would definitely be big enough to put them in one of the later slots on the Pyramid (second or third) or perhaps headlining the Other Stage. JP? Never. Park? Perhaps, maybe if it was a secret gig or something.

Hey guys,

I'm sorry Mike99, you were wrong I was right. Excuse me for my ignorance.

I've founed a website which backs up your evidence here, it's really popular

for line up information, rumours and stuff like that. Last year they announced

Jay-Z way before anyone else did.

Anyway rambling on a bit, I founed an interesting article on this website saying

that the libertines are about 99.9% confirmed, if your a fan of the band and want

them to play at glasto, read this:
