ramragon
Now were drawing into march and the months we've got to wait before the official final line up is released i was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on this years "5 day festival" tag, i was there last year, went down on the wednesday and was astounded by the amount of people who also turned up wednesday (88000 if i remember the story right). It was interesting walking round the site on the run up to it opening and like 1000's of others i tried to get in to the queens head to watch the opening acts on thursday night, glasvegas, roisin murphey and santagold could have easily filled the john peel tent, however having one of the smaller venues to amuse over 100000 people on thursday night wasnt the best. Do you think there will be an increased line up before the festival officially starts early friday morning this year, theyve obviously increased the 3 day tag to 5 for some reason. got to say it would give some of the up and coming bands an opportunity to play on a much bigger stage in front of much bigger audiences than they were used to. heres hoping
Sweep
It is an interesting point, it's an opportunity to blood new bands that under these circumstances could fill the JP tent, but would not be able to on fri/sat/sun. And it wouldn't raise the costs much by simply moving the bands over.
Paul ™
I believe Neil has said something about there being more planned stages being on the Thursday this year
Joshuwarr
Its a shame the Leftfield is gone as it was pretty busy there last year on the Thursday. I think the Cabarat tent should be open a long with the Circus tent.
ramragon
from what i remember the leftfield stage was opened by the levellers at midnight, sorry to say after drinking since 11am i was too drunk to make my way there by that time ! certainly there were enough people milling around, on site and looking for entertainment to start from noon on the thursday. there must have been 100 000 on site by then. im not saying they should open the pyramid or other stage but certainly the john peel tent, acoustic and even cabaret stages must be worth considering, im sure loads of the bands would jump at the opportunity of playing bumper crowds for them and possibly retain some support after they had played
mr_smiss
There were plenty of little acts going on on the Thursday around the site. It is a tradition every year for a Thursday session listening to Biggles Wartime Band! And the Leftfield was open way before midnight, there were great acts on for the whole evening and most of the afternoon - King Blues, Pie Tasters Pama International amongst others. ramragon
must have missed all that fun, had a look around in the afternoon, the leftfield looked like it was still being finished off then. probably made the mistake of looking at the official programme, where im sure it listed the levellers as being first up otherwise i probably would have made more effort to get there

ig1234
I prefer there being a little on the Thursday, and most starts Friday. I find the Wednesday and Thursday some of the best days of the festival usually as I can catch up with people, relax and explore. Traditionally the weather is best on these days too... mouth
I've got got admit when I read your first post I didn't have a clue what you were on about (Probably just me being a duh brain) Is this the second year they've sold the festival as being a 5 day event instead of just a Fri to Sun one? It's about time. I've been arriving on the Wednesday morning for at least the last 10 years. It seems like there is now more 'official organised' acts on, on the Wed and Thu, but in the past there has always been enough stuff on to keep every amused. I reckon the biggest advantage of being officialy a five day festival, is See Tickets can't use "Well the festival doesn't start till Friday" when they deliver your tickets - bought and paid for 3 months before - on the Thursday night. MJMilz14
Ive always thought Thursday night would be a good opertunity to "test the waters" with a potential future headliner. Perhaps have a band who aren't quite headliner material just yet, but look like they might one day be. Just a thought though.
