Well just wondering your thoughts on this one as a friend of mine suggested that because they have no sponsor now for ex JJB will this mean lesser acts as not as much money to cough up.....

It would go in line with what has been announced on stages as not huge acts really (although I personally do think MGMT are good enough to headline) compared to previous years tbh

Also, this might be why thursday has been cancelled as main entertainment was at the JJB so maybe again no sponsor has upset things

What does everyone else think?

I agree, however I think there probably is another sponser involved but either they or Virgin wanted to them to remain nameless as it may not have been good advertising.

Imagine (and this is very thin ice here) if it was Blacks Camping equipment who sponsered the tent. "The Blacks Tent - featuring performances from Dizzy Rascal etc" doesn't really give a good impression. I know that's just an example but you see what I mean, the name of the sponser might not suit the image the organisers are going for. In return for not featuring the company name on the tent, they recieve and large cut of the overall profits.

I doubt MGMT will headline tbh. If they do then it's a case of booking on the cheap IMO. Looking at acts that have headlined the JJB in the past, Ian Brown, Damien Rice, these are acts that play either the Apollo's or Arenas on their tours, MGMT are playing Academy (1500) sized venues. There's plenty to be announced so it's waaaay too early to be worrying about clashes.

MGMT's academy sized tour sold out and got touted for quite abit so they'd probably sell out when they up their venue sizes next time.. considering that academy tour was a few months ago now.

Since they have updated the site, it clearly shows MGMT ARE headlining the one night now, Sorry Laura you were right, I bow down to you Im disappointed with this though myself, I don't think they're big enough to headline, they're on one album, they are growing in popularity but look at the acts whos played their in recent years and they are no where near, last year Ian Brown and Chemical Brothers and this year MGMT? I hope that V reconsider and put someone else in the spot

But don't get me wrong I do do love MGMT, just don't think they're the stature of Primal Scream and the like

well I'm happy they are headlining much better than boring Keane....

The way I see it though is they played 3rd in NME tent last year and stock was still raising so I think they deserve headliner spot as they will probably be doing new album this year and evn though might not be out by V surely they will sample some new stuff?

However do agree not quite the scale of previous headliners but still worth seeing I think alot of folk will be surprised how good they actually are live - I'm very happy they only thing that would tear me away is if Kills were announced in one of the V mobile tent..

If it's the case & MGMT are the headline act that's very poor IMO. I'm sure they're popular bt no way are they as big as Ian Brown, The Chems or Primal Scream? I'm not saying they shouldn't be playing but they definately shouldn't be headlining.

Booking on the cheap & hoping punters have low expectations.

i think that they're on dodgy ground to be honest...if the final line-up is poor in comparison to other festivals, I'll go, I'll have a great weekend and spend my money elsewhere next year (and this is coming from somebody who went to the first one!)...there seems to be a lot more negativity round this forum this year than last...and, as much as i love V, i think a lot of it has some merit...

No sponsor in their right mind would want to sponsor anything and be kept a secret, unless it was the masonic lodge (and I can't see that happening), they don't have a sponsor, JJB retail (which sponsored the tent) have gone into adminsitration and therefore no sponsor. You can not approach a company from a corporate angle and say hey invest in our festival and in return you will get a big fat zero.

I heard that last years Thursday was part of the JJB sponsorship but not enough people took them up on it and they lost money so they have to be very very careful this year on how many people buy tickets, that is also why they have some big names and regular names back so quickly on previous year's, appeal to the masses and sell the tickets.
