Why is it, every other festival is announcing acts?

Come, on, look at T in the Park, V and Oxygen, they are looking to be the festivals everyone is talking about...

But oh no, not Glastonbury, announce some acts, some BIG ACTS... not someone like neil young god!!!

annoys me tbh. why cant they announce someone like the killers or someone like that! :)

Think of it like this way, V is like a restaurant where your gigantic main course gets brought out first but then you have to wait for an hour before you get your drink, let alone the entrees.

Glastonbury conversely brings every single thing on the menu to you all at once, and you sit there, eyes wide, thinking "How the f**k am I ever gonna eat all this?!"

its all about selling tickets. A lot of people buy their tickets for Glastonbury annually, regardless of the line up, because of the experience. Leeds / Reading wouldn't shift tickets if they didn't let you know who the big bands are that are playing. They make you wait for the smaller / filler bands though, because they can, they're tickets have already sold.

I don't agree with it, mind, I wish they would announce the line up, but that is my opinion. I'm starting to swing to the anticipation side of things though!

I have to say I'd prefer the line-up to be released now. If nothing else it would save a million speculative threads on this board! Plus people want to plan their lives.. if they know band XYZ isn't going to play they can book tickets to see them elsewhere. Holding the line-up back is not about the excitement and speculation, it's just more commercial bullshit. Glastonbury is like the Tory party, you don't want to buy a ticket but they're the best, you just have to..

I'm enjoying seeing the lineup slowly unravel through rumours on this site, gets me more and more excited bit by bit. Was happy to see Blur at first, very happy with Fleetwood Mac, excited by the rumours of The White Stripes, Ladyhawke and Kanye West... can't wait to see the lineup in full, but at the moment its largely because I want to see how all these rumours pan out.

They haven't released a significant portion of the line up simply because they havent booked the acts yet. So what if GF don't officially confirm the acts till a certain date. Most of the acts that are booked let it known anyway. You're mixing Glastonbury up woth a music festiaval. It's so much more.

I do think commercial considerations do play a part - in terms of deals with promoters re: other gig sales etc, a point many others have made on these threads recently.
