Jens Wildman
http://www.nme.com/news/u2/43148 U2 have revealed that they are planning to release another new album before 2009 is over. The band described the album as a "companion" to new effort 'No Line On The Horizon', released today (March 2), and that it will be more meditative than their latest effort. The band added that they would not be considering breaking from the traditional cycle of record releases in the style of Radiohead. "My instinct is to stick with the record guys," guitarist The Edge told the New York Times. "They have to sell your records or sell the downloads, whatever it ends up being. "To do that, first of all you've got to love and understand the music, and right now I'm not seeing any group that rivals the record labels on that front." Frontman Bono added: "I'm interested in commerce. The excuse for bigness is that songs demand to be heard if they're any good. And without the kind of momentum of being in a big rock 'n roll band, you won't get your songs heard."

Wanderlei
U2 have never impressed me with anything they've done. I'm amazed at how they've lasted for so long. They're just boring.

He thinks that record labels love and understand the music better than the bands themselves?? Yeah....

The Nal
I find the anti U2 thing quite strange. People seem to really hate them! Especially in England. Don’t get me wrong, Im hardly the biggest U2 fan in the world, last couple of albums have been utter pish and Bono is slowly disappearing up his own arse. He could describe putting sugar in his tea and try make it sound momentous. They’ve bottled it on the latest album, fallen victim to their perceived sense of responsibility to their “fanbase”. Some songs sound VERY like current bands, ie Kings of Leon. They’ve actually done this as far back as Achtung Baby when the Mondays, Roses etc were about but they got away with it then. They had the opportunity to blow this album out of the water and surprise people with filthy guitar riffs, roaring vocals etc, but they didn’t. Fear of alienating your fanbase is not what rock and roll or any art form is about. Theres no sense of “f**k you” about the band anymore, childish as that sounds, it f**king works. Yes they are overblown stadium rock, yes they are opinionated w*nkers at times, yes Bono is a pain in the arse and can be embarrassing (especially for Dubliners - we are NOT like that), but they’ve been around for a long time for a reason. They’ve released a couple of cracking albums in their time, overplayed to death granted, but they’re still good records. However I can see why the work Bono does for “charity” ruins the band a little (something Larry Mullen agrees with methinks). If Bono was in the papers every day with coke up his nose, banging a different model every night and driving over kids in his car I think the band would be seen in a different (“cooler”) light. Also, not sure if anyone outside of Ireland notices, his accent is f**king weird. However, I don’t buy this “never released a good album” cobblers. Blood Red Sky, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby and Pop are all great in my opinion. Even if you don’t U2, these albums cant be all described as “shit” can they? Coldplay now, that’s a different story. To quote Eric Clapton, “The one in Coldplay even dances like Bono”.

Wooderson
Dont think thats it. Thin Lizzy dont get the same reaction. Anyway, Adam and Edge were both born in England.
angelofharlem
It seems strange to me that some people describe the band as boring. They are anything but! Their live shows are full of energy and passion. They have been one of my favourite bands since seening them play in small clubs in the early 80s, and they are stiill as good as ever. I am really looking forward to hearing the new album and seeing them on tour this year.

coolethan
I find it hard to seperate the music from the Bono - something to do with our awful celebrity culture and the fact that he is a complete and utter twat sandwich. That being said, With or Without you is kind of a nice song.
