Glastonbury a good starter for my first festival ?

The only problem with going to Glastonbury as your first festival is that everything else pales in comparison. You'll have the time of your life.

I thought Reading was cool- I was completely bowled over by Glastonbury and couldn't believe the difference. I've also since been to V and it was all a bit meh. I heard V described as a festival for people who don't like festivals- apt description.

Glastonbury is quite unlike any other Festival in terms of scale and atmosphere.

Hang around these eFestival Glasto forums and spend some time reading the many excellent threads here.

Most info you can think of is contained here on this site.

Anyway a useful (non-efest source) start point for beginners is :

>> Tort's Guide to the Glastonbury Festival <<

You are in for a special treat when you arrive on the hallowed fields of Glastonbury in June.

It's a life changing experience :):P:D

In a way ye its a great place for your first festival

It's mind blowing if you haven't experienced anything vaguely similar before (even if you have)

In another sense though it's quite bad; other festivals just dont measure up to it afterwards, well certainly leeds never, though i wasn't holding out for much. Everything becomes a comparison of glastonbury which it shouldn't really. It also makes you hate the arena system most festivals seem to employ.

These aren't really criticisms of the festival as such but do make ordinary life quite a bit duller

I went Leeds last year for my first festival which blew me away and made me think why i hadnt been doing this earlier!!!

It's going to be my first Glasto this year and i'm going with me arl fella...

But from what i've read it looks like Leeds is going to be a forgotten memory

Can't wait now!!!

P.S i remember watching KOL at glasto on telly last year and seeing that purple aki flag!

Hahaha that was sooo brilliant!!!

Glasto is the Mother of all Festivals and nothing will compare....... Sort of true-ish.

No major festival (the Readings or Vs) will compete but some of the smaller festivals do have a unique, friendly character of their own.

I wouldn't want to steward at Glasto as I enjoy taking my responsible head off for the week but I also do two other smaller fests where I work as a volunteer steward. Being part of the volunteer team adds an extra something and it's nice to give something back

As well as Glasto I do the Trowbridge Village Pump in Wiltshire - mainly folky with the sort of people you'll see on the Jazz World and Acoustic Stages at Glasto and the Cambridge Rock Festival (mainly classic Prog Rock and Blues).
