jollynolly
Trash City and to extent Shangri la were a big success and they are extending them to deal with the crowd problem. I also really enjoyed the Park. Still worried about Bragg probably Jazz World or Avalon stage I imagine.
paulo999
I was a fan of Left Field myself. Personally I think that not having a 'new version' of Left Field could indicate that the there is a possibility that Left Field will return, as has been speculated here before. Conversely, if there is a new attempt at recreating Left Field, but with new organisers and a new name, I would take that as meaning the door would be firmly closed on Left Field, at least for several years, and possibly for good. Now if - and it is a big if - Left Field returns in 2010, I'd rather that with a year off, than see their idea repeated by someone else, with a reasonable likelyhood of it being a weak copy. Very much my own speculation and opinion there. I have no inside knowledge of the situation with Left Field.
pie_and_a_pint
Hmm... well, I suppose this will stop the noise-clash between the (always slightly-too-loud) Queen's Head and the (not brilliant) Other Stage. But I'm not sure that a Cinema going all night will please the residents of the Family Field. And I'm not sure that the good residents of Kidney Mead and Big Ground will enjoy the corporate RAAAAHHHHH of the Queen's Head when we're used to popping down to the Leftfield... *sigh*

Mardy
It's a particularly bad year for no Leftfield, 25 years since the miners strike, the start of red wedge and all that. The more I think about it, the more p***** off I am.

beodeejay
Not sure how the family camping sits alongside the outdoor cinema - or how sensible it is to put the least child friendly "pub" ( Queens head) next to the kids field entrance ....always thought the older kids ( say 10 - 14 ) got a good, if passing, impression at Leftfield - the Co-op, the campaigns, the general world view of the festival. Fair to day the Queens Head is maybe the least "Glasto" bit of glasto - albeit I think it has a place on site - just not there. In the John Peel / Dance area seems the most logical to me... Fairies for Change
Don't want to be negative, but if this is true then I'm very worried about the dedicated political area gap being plugged by what is simply a sponsored bar (love it or hate it). Seems to be a far comment about Britain though...
TomfromStroud
This got me thinking about the Worker's Beer Company's involvement. I imagine this has already been posted somewhere, so I won't start a new topic, but just for your information here is the latest press release on their website: WBC agree a new deal with Glastonbury Festival The Workers Beer Company have agreed a new deal to continue its 20 year tenure as Glastonbury Festivals bar franchisee. The deal includes a complete review of the bar provision at the event to ensure we provide the most cost effective operation whilst maintaining a high level of service to the punter. There will be some new bars and some will not be returning. As in previous years we will of course be offering a wide range of products and operating a number of specialist bars such as the Red Flag Real Ale bar alongside our regular fast serve bars at the Pyramid Stage and the Other Stage. New for 2009; we are planning a competition amongst students at local art colleges to design the décor at three of our bars, more on this as plans are confirmed. We are also looking at providing entertainment in some of our bars, mainly DJ’s, but perhaps also some acoustic slots. Finally after the successful trials in 2008 we are also looking to operate the bar code till systems in some of the Glastonbury bars. The Workers Beer Company is very please to be continuing its relationship with Glastonbury Festival and is looking forward to a successful 2009 Festival. Chimps in Balaclavas
They should Keep the cinema where it is in my opinion & fill up the Leftfield with something new, why fix what isn't broken?
airds
I thought I had read somewhere that the leftfield situation was for this year only, so people shouldn't get too upset ...but it opens up the question, what happens in 2010, does the leftfield go back to its roots and if so what happens to the queens head, or does the queens head stay there and the leftfield tent move ??? dwukky
As posted in another thread, theres something that I was made aware of last year, that the organisers possibly need a bit of credit for - The Cinema field was located to the left of the spring ground, which for several fantastic logistical reasons plays host to the only Disabled / Assisted camping area on site and the upper part to a recently new family area. The gist of the issue was that for the younger festival goers - they were woken up night on night with "scary noises" coming from the ground (put that down to a huge sub) and why should anyone of any age miss out on the festival. Additionally, there was constructive critique from some campers in the lower spring field (disabled area) that had a regimented medication system to help combat their particular condition, and the "night time" element of these tends to involve some sort of sedative quality (as medication thats is best given prior to sleep) and again the volume and rumble of the performance, didn't help them sleep. As I say these critiques were put to the organizers, during and after the festival and this *might* have something do with the decision to re-locate the field. zlatan
I worked at the Leftfield last year and as far as I can tell the signs are positive that it'll be all up and running again next year Sucks having to pay to go to Glastonbury this year
Legs
I've only just got my tickets and therefore my map. Have the big Top and Theatre stages moved over to the market side with an extra 'blob' on the other side (or is that the fire thingy stage?) And the new Leftfield area is confusing me. The Queens Head has another stage (or 'blob') opposite with the meeting point written over it and an arrow. What's that all about? Should be interesting to see whats new in that little hub, looks like it could be a nice little area.
